Sure, uninformed, unread, uneducated idiots like you don't. The smart people that knew how vluable those departments were are very much missing them.

The smart people can run state funded education system just fine.

Ed didn't run the education system, it enforced civil rights. The people who hate Ed, hate it for that.

If by "enforced civil rights" you mean "discriminated on the basis of race," that is what they did, yes. You are correct. US Dept of Ed was in fact racist.

So, basically did a lot of things except teach math and reading.

You should emigrate to a place with a king, then, because the whole point of the U.S.A. is that it is a democracy without a king.

That was then. This is now.

How likely is it they will get their jobs back after the midterms?

This might be the stupidest question of the year.

Dept of Ed existed to make sure women and minorities were able to go to school. That's it.

Dept of Ed never created a curriculum, it had nothing to do with Common Core, it didn't oversee teachers, etc. All that is done by your state.
If you want a federal agency responsible for curriculum and teaching, you will have to create one to do that. But we have never had one before and I've never heard that anyone wants one.

Well good! If all they did was make sure women and minorities were able to go to school, their job is done and it was time to phase them out, since women and minoritirs have been able to go to school for 70 years. We didn’t need them by your own admission! Or are you just gaslighting us?

Exactly the point. The state is capable of educating people and the state can also educate women/minority. Arguably the state is more efficient.

Well the guy who made sure women can play football is not a quarterback and doesn’t deserve that 10m contract. Same things goes for department of education.

exactly. and eliminating all the garbage grants from NIH. never coming back.

You know a lot about NIH grants, do you?

My spouse has a good friend that is a professor at a major university in a medical field. He has been getting grants for last 15 years for "medical research". He retired but still has grant money to use up so he is going to a Scandinavian country to participate in a graduation ceremony, all paid by the grant money!!!!

He has been around the world on the grant dime, doing presentations at various conferences. Amazing that taxpayers pay for this, and it seems it is typical. Folks in this industry write papers and then travel the world to present them. Congratulate themselves, all travel paid by grant money. No real solutions, just talk to themselves and money spent on travel.

And he was able to go to a conference the other night, 800$ a head , as a group they get together and give each other awards and spend the school's money on fancy dinner at Westin in DC. 800$ per person funded by grant money given to school. Dean at school doles it out.

jealous , absolutely.

But come on, this should have been stopped a long time ago, no taxpayer money for grants like this. it is out of control. the grant system is out of control and controlled by the same people getting the grants. all on the taxpayer dime.

As a complexifying industrial society demanded more scientific research and knowledge workers, federal funds flowed into labs and tuition subsidies, while families paid more and more for that increasingly valuable ticket to a middle-class job.

It also administers laws and regulations related to special ed. I have to fill out the required forms every time I have the required meetings with the schools about my kid’s IEP.

As someone who oversees lots of federal grants (not NIH), I can tell you that would never be an allowable expense. No way. It would fail on audit. But schools are their own entities, and their deans have other non-federal funding sources they can use to support an $800-a-head dinner. Probably one where they’ve invited donors and faculty to drum up private money. I don’t believe that your story has taxpayers footing that bill.

And when the state chooses not to educate women and minorities? Or chooses not to give them the same opportunities for admission, scholarships, etc - who makes them do it? That was the reason the department was created. And that is why certain people want it gone.
