No one misses USAID or Dept of Ed.
exactly. and eliminating all the garbage grants from NIH. never coming back.
You know a lot about NIH grants, do you?
My spouse has a good friend that is a professor at a major university in a medical field. He has been getting grants for last 15 years for "medical research". He retired but still has grant money to use up so he is going to a Scandinavian country to participate in a graduation ceremony, all paid by the grant money!!!! He has been around the world on the grant dime, doing presentations at various conferences. Amazing that taxpayers pay for this, and it seems it is typical. Folks in this industry write papers and then travel the world to present them. Congratulate themselves, all travel paid by grant money. No real solutions, just talk to themselves and money spent on travel. And he was able to go to a conference the other night, 800$ a head , as a group they get together and give each other awards and spend the school's money on fancy dinner at Westin in DC. 800$ per person funded by grant money given to school. Dean at school doles it out. jealous , absolutely. But come on, this should have been stopped a long time ago, no taxpayer money for grants like this. it is out of control. the grant system is out of control and controlled by the same people getting the grants. all on the taxpayer dime. As a complexifying industrial society demanded more scientific research and knowledge workers, federal funds flowed into labs and tuition subsidies, while families paid more and more for that increasingly valuable ticket to a middle-class job.
