Boycotting stores with skeleton crews

Next time you have an extended wait time, call corporate and complain. But please god don’t complain to the poor front desk woman who is doing the job of 2 or 3.

Private equity is also buying up veterinary clinics.

Private equity doesn't give a rat's ass about your pets. They want your money.

Then start your own businesses.

That's not the real reason. It may be the excuse but that's not the reason why everywhere seems understaffed. The private equity model of squeezing every single cent of profit from employees, no matter what the consequence, has trickled down to almost every aspect of life. Businesses, service providers, dr offices, etc. Because if you hire less people, and can get the same amount of work out of 1 person vs hiring 3, they're doing it. The owners don't care about customer service, repeat business or loyal customers. They just watch that bottom line.

Are you willing to take a minimum wage job? NO

If you’re speaking to me (the urgent care doc) no, I can’t, because every other practice is the same (or going to be the same soon) and I have student loans and kids and bills. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all just quit our jobs.

You can change jobs. You choose not to because ofyour lifestyle choices. There are plenty of jobs for doctors. Try military health care.

NP. The military is not an option for people who can’t pass the physical due to a disability. It’s not a realistic option if the higher-earning spouse has a regionally-specific job. Stop touting it as a solution for everyone.

Hudson (the airport bookseller) I guess is phasing out ANY cashiers and have someone who sort of hovers over you while you’re at the self-checkout. Truly the worst of both worlds.

I’m an MBA and a management consultant and I KNOW these staff models are developed with almost no consideration for customer experience. They do not care. It is all and only about the $$$$$$$, trust and believe.

So they staff TWO and then the poor workers are swamped and people place mobile orders and still wait 30 minutes and are irate or have to cancel it and leave except the store can’t cancel it, they have to call corporate. This has happened multiple times at different Jersey Mikes and I just refuse to go there anymore. Accept that paying labor is part of your costs and staff your businesses appropriately!

Amen

Private equity needs to be outlawed. They're ruining so many companies. Namely dentist offices and vet offices.

And real estate, etc.

I agree wholeheartedly

Agree with you OP

Trader Joe’s is just a frozen food reseller. There is nothing great about Trader Joe’s unless you like cheap wine and frozen food.

Off topic, but the sliced meat to order at Jersey Mikes is such a waste of time. In a blind taste test, I don't think anybody could tell the difference between a "freshly" sliced piece of salami and one that was sliced prior to a lunch rush. "Fresh" sliced and deli meat that's full of nitrates is such an oxymoron. Sorry for the rant...I actually like Jersey Mikes.

The Jersey mikes in Ashburn near a now gone Home Goods was always filthy and staffed by bros who would act up if you didn’t add a tip on your order of substandard food. It was gross and the sandwiches were no better than a subway.

Going to Home Depot is SO much better since they have customers a way to search for products and see aisle and bin numbers, for example. There’s no reason to require me to find a person to ask to search a database. I can search a database.

I can’t think of why I would need or want a human cashier, ever. Seriously, what is the upside? I’m just standing there while they do something I can also do.

Same. I will pick self service any day. I’m much quicker. I haven’t had problems with them in a long time. When they first came out they were unreliable but they’re great now. I don’t get why anyone (without small children) wants to go to an actual cashier.

It's fine for small orders. I hate it for large grocery orders. There's no space, and if you don't bag your item exactly right or remove it too quickly, it doesn't let you proceed.

Wegman's has a "Skip Bagging" button very prominent on their screen and I just hit that all day long. I'm very honest so if they're recording me in other ways then it's fine. I'm in there every week so they probably know my scanning algorithms at this point. I'm faster than the cashier.

At the bare minimum, it should be banned from operating any healthcare facilities.

Or veterinary care!!! Veterinary care costs have gone up 40% in less than five years.

I will give the nod to Jersey Mikes over Subway. They actually put meat on the sub and the bread is better. That said, I usually pick Subway over Jersey Mikes. Subway has better prices. When I’m out and want something quick, Subway can get you in and out for $10. Jersey Mikes is close to twenty and I always feel gross after eating there- maybe too much meat?

"Place your item in the bagging area. Place your item in the bagging area. Place your item in the bagging area. Help is on the way." All while my item is already in the bagging area.

Safeway revamped their scanners nearly a year ago. I haven't had this problem in a long time. I scan directly back into my bag in my cart. The only time I need a cashier is if I buy alcohol.

NP. I just had this problem last week.
