Boycotting stores with skeleton crews

Anonymous
Customer service has become horrible and part of that is because stores have stopped hiring people to work there even though they need them. I went to a chipotle for lunch and there was literally 1 guy running the food and cash register. He looked like he wanted to die. Almost all the grocery stores require self check out and their prices are higher than ever. I had to send a letter and there was literally nobody behind the counter at usps but there was a sign saying they’d return at 4:30. When the postal worker came out I asked what’s going on and he told me he is the only person who has a counter job and they might hire a second person. I’m sick of this and boycotting these places. That’s all, that’s the post.

I agree with this.

At my local high-end mall, Zara closes early whenever it feels like it, the racks are a disaster, and the checkout line is Soviet in length.

We don't mail order anymore.

Agreed. Additionally CVS (with the exception of the pharmacy area) and a lot of fast food restaurants almost force you to use kiosks because of the lack of staff available to ring up sales/take food orders, etc.

Grocery chains are enjoying record profits while they blame inflation and increased wages for higher prices. Nope. They're greedy and have jacked up prices because they can.

Time to start boycotting chains known for unfair pricing. We've seen boycotts are effective, so let's do it.

No one wants to work those low paid jobs... nor do you.

Please don’t speak for me. You know nothing about me.

That was true in 2021/2022 but not anymore. The job market is very much on the side of the employers now. I’ve been told that some of these stores especially if they have district managers get bonuses for not spending all of their potential hiring dollars so they leave the stores on skeleton crews.

We know you don’t want to work a minimum wage job. Just admit it

Jersey Mikes is the same. They’ll staff it with 2 people. Well, you need probably 4 at least- one to manage online orders, one to slice meats, two to make sandwiches / ring people up. So they staff TWO and then the poor workers are swamped and people place mobile orders and still wait 30 minutes and are irate or have to cancel it and leave except the store can’t cancel it, they have to call corporate. This has happened multiple times at different Jersey Mikes and I just refuse to go there anymore. Accept that paying labor is part of your costs and staff your businesses appropriately!

So many of these places are either owned by larger corporations and conglomerates or private equity. All those places only case about stock prices and dividends and profits. Hiring fewer people is lowering costs and increasing profits. It doesn't lead to longevity of the business or customer loyalty but noone cares. The stock market is up so that's all thst matters. Would you pay 10-20% for something with good service? Because the companies aren't taking a hit on their profit. Welcome to unfettered capitalism.

Teens do. With the exception of Chipotle, many others mentioned here won’t hire until 18. And even Chipotle is hard to get an interview around us. My son and friends have applied at so many jobs. Yes, they have even gone in person. They are told they have to be 18 or they aren’t hiring. He’s applied to Chipotle several times and never been called.

+100

You have to be 18+ in a lot of retail and (most) restaurants.
CFA, mcd, and a few handful of other restaurants are ok with 16 and 17 yr olds.

And when you go in person to follow up with application, both my teens were told to apply through the (corporate) website which they did, but told they're looking for AM shift or no longer hiring.
