I dont think they envisioned the government sending the texts (although why not the DC government?). The idea is that someone creates a way to do this. I get texts for a lot dumber stuff. |
People already post alerts about checkpoints on Reddit and Twitter and elsewhere. But most people aren't hanging out on Reddit and Twitter all day. |

What about people who don't drive or travel? All my kid has is a birth certificate and a school ID. I'm not letting my ADHD kid walk around with the only copy of his birth certificate that we have! Obviously, the birth certificate doesn't have a photo, so it could be anyone's anyway, right?
This isn't supposed to be a problem in the USA. |
Your kid should not be on his own. This is very common in other police states. There is supposedly a big emphasis on youth crime. There is curfew for youths in DC of 11 pm. Nothing has happened yet but it is coming. Rumor is they are going to go in to schools and grab the children to force adults to surrender. I would get him a passport that you can keep at home and then he can carry a passport card. You have to make sure other people have access to your passport because ICE/Feds will “lose” whatever you are carrying when arrested. |
I think airports count as a border zone. |
No. Real ID is not considered proof of citizenship. I would carry a copy of your passport but keep it some place safe and accessible by a lawyer or friend. George T. Conway is now carrying his passport card along with a lot of other people. |

WTF?
I saw several ICE vehicles harassing people on 395S today in nova near Springfield (slowing down and looking into vehicles, blocking lanes with their multi-vehicle caravan etc). I don’t understand how they can just stop people and insist on proof of citizenship. |
Okay sure. If you resist you will get arrested for federal resisting arrest and/or obstruction charge. These are usually charges police tack on to people who talk back or the police have a very weak case against and dropped in a plea bargains. In the case of federal resisting arrest 1-20 years and fines up to $250,000. Federal obstruction charges are up to 30 years. Funny these were not used on the Jan6’ers. Oh and the federal law enforcement can only charge felonies in DC. So stand there and argue the 5th and you will be arrested. The just arrested a guy who was filming an arrest. They have been transferring people to places like Texas or just lose you in the system. The few people who get out of the DHS system tell of a hell hole conditions. Your lawyer will not be able to find you. The judicial branch is lining up with Trump. All those Federalist Society judges are real excited about backing Trump on these new powers. The constitution is pretty much nonexistent any more. This is what authoritarianism is. You can quote the constitution but when was the last time you saw a republican talking about constitutional rights? |
OK, can someone clarify what is accepted as proof of citizenship? Am I supposed to carry my passport? |
Who is going to stop them? This si what people voted for. |
No they can not do this |
Apply for a passport card or carry your original birth certificate with a real id. Have a back up in a safe place. This is for driving but I think they will extend their interpretation of who they can stop. They have guns and no one is coming to help you out. Plus ICE now has a budget that ranks 11th in the world in terms of military spending. The ICE budget is bigger vs Israel’s defense budget. I think it is funny when people say that the US military protects our freedom. They do not. Civil rights lawyers protect our freedoms. |
+1 if you are a documented immigrant your best bet is to just smile, show the documentation, say as little as possible, and pray that someone is around to film. Do not antagonize cops ever, even if they deserve it, especially since they have no consequences since their faces are covered and no names. |
Welcome to fascism. This reminds me of the Third world country my family escaped from. |
