What's the best way to avoid these stupid police checkpoints?

Our worthless DC government should be educating the public on this stuff.

Coucilmembers and ANC commissioners have been putting this information out for some time.

Apparently not very effectively...

For anyone who may happen upon a crime, you might consider downloading "eyewitness for atrocities" app. https://www.eyewitness.global/
When we had USAID, we suggested our partners use this app to ensure that the film's metadata was verifiable in court. Obviously, it won't matter until we have the rule of law back, but it is still important to document violations of the law.

Are the checkpoints usually during the evening rush hour?

You have to prove your a citizen. If you can't, you get arrested and your car gets searched and impounded.

Yes everyone(not just the driver) has to show ID and proof of citizenship. A real ID is not proof of citizenship. You also have to give a reason why you are traveling- where you are going, who you are meeting, where you are coming from, address of employer, etc. They can impounded your car and take your phone if ICE or Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

No.

Yes. Read this:

https://www.aclu.org/know-your-rights/border-zone#how-does-this-work-in-real-life-cbp-at-immigration-checkpoints

It's not stop-and-frisk. It's "100 Mile Border Zone".

Are you asking for the opt-out button for fascist takeover?

Where do you think you can safely hide?

Well, I get texts alerting me to possible flash floods, I get them for missing children, I get them for all kinds of reasons. Why can't I get them for checkpoints?

Those alerts exist because the government has an arrangement with the cell phone carriers that allows it to occasionally commandeer their cell towers to issue those kind of warnings to all phones in the relevant area. Obviously the government isn't going to do that to alert you to its own checkpoints.
