A variation of this same topic pops up every couple months here. The details and minutia is always slightly different, but the principle themes are always the same:

Perpetrator is ALWAYS a “older white man”

Victim is ALWAYS a younger Asian woman

ALWAYS some variation of “you need to go back to wherever you came from”

Sometimes the OP is the eyewitness, sometimes the OP is the victim herself

At no time has the antagonist ever been described as a race other than white. Never.



If you follow DCUM long enough, you’ll spot these threads every few months. This is at least the sixth one I can recall. There was another one in the past year where the OP was outraged that a white male stranger said “Xi Xi” to her daughter as a greeting, and had the unmitigated gall to assume they were Chinese. Or the one about the “homeless man on north Capitol street” who angrily yelled racial epithets at the OP while panhandling and then followed her while continuing to scream at her. He of course was a “white man with a MAGA hat”…..


Yeah, this is all so tiresome.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, him making his point was in regard to how the interaction started-- a disagreement between two people that had nothing to do with me. Once it escalated to verbal attack I felt compelled to at least try to intervene.

I believe you, OP, and I agree with the PPs who said it was nice of you to say something. Do I think you could've worded your intervention a bit differently and called him out on his racism? Yes. But I also understand that it can be hard to come up with the exact right thing to say on the fly. Thank you for intervening and helping the clerk; I'm sure she appreciated it.

Or maybe it happens way more than you think? NP here, also an Asian woman. Definitely been told to go back to my country before, despite speaking perfect, native English, or some other racial insult. Used to happen more, when I was younger. I’m now admittedly living in a bubble and don’t come across these kinds of people much anymore. I’ve only heard it from white or black men before.

Sure. And then I remember that the person wouldn't say "you don't belong here" and "go back to where you came from" if I was white. And that's the point.

I've actually met many more people than 3-4 in the last 5 years then just the racist ones. But you already knew that.

This isn’t true. Yes, humans drove all megafauna to extinction outside of Africa, but the first area humans migrated to was Europe. Meaning the very first place humans drove megafauna to extinction was Europe, not the Americas.

The point of EVERY thread like this one is that only white men are racists. That’s why these threads are started. You will not find another thread on DCUM that survives any length of time without being deleted that describes a “racist attack” by someone other than a white man.
