Who do you imagine you’ll be shooting? Other than the people that whoever steals the gun from you shoots?

Whoever who is stupid enough to come inside uninvited at night.

They'd likely shoot you with your own gun faster than you could shoot them.

+100

Morons who think they’re going to awake from a dead sleep and have a chance against … who?

If they’re a thief they’re not bothering you or threatening you and you’re not going to know they were there and wouldn’t have much ground to shoot them if you did… someone who is coming to kill you isn’t going to be stopped by your groggy ass mishandling a gun you don’t know how to use.

I dare you to try me.

I did when we lived in Baltimore. And we had an alarm system.

Sorry this happened to you PP!

The point of having a self defense weapon (bat, golf clip, bear spray, gun, etc) in the home is never having to use it, but to be trained and practiced in its use should the need arise.

Similar to making the monthly or quarterly payments on your life insurance policy that you hope you will never have to use.

The problem with having weapons in the house, statistically is that they are more likely to be used against you. If you have a gun and the intruder has a gun, they are going to shoot you.

Hell I learned this in 8th grade Guidance class in the mid 80s. This has not changed.

Also: violence against another human is never the answer!

If you ever feel you are in true danger from someone, why not just try appealing to that person’s humanity? We are all human after all.

Why not?

This is not true at all for someone with even a basic amount of quality training.

When getting divorced and things were very contentious with my ex and I, I slept with a kitchen knife under the pillow. He could have easily overpowered me, but I think it made me feel safer. Ever since I moved away, nothing.

Question though - if you awaken to a rapist or just a perv (like the Boston foot tickler) at the bottom of your bed, would a weapon - not even a gun, but a golf club or baton at-least allow the woman the chance to fight back?

People make this argument all the time with absolutely no evidence of it. Those of us who keep firearms by our beds (I'm a 50s something woman who does) have been trained and know when and how to use them. Please, show me a time when someone has had their own gun turned on them in their home. I have never seen one.

We know you think you’re different…. But you’re not.

There’s tons of research showing it. There’s no research showing you could wake up, pull off your cpap machine and hoist yourself over to your nightstand and get a weapon before the professional criminal caps you. If it’s someone coming with the intent to murder or harm you, specifically, your obese ass isn’t going to do anything better than them with a gun. If it’s someone who is just robbing you - what would shooting accomplish, except possibly escalate a situation which should be de escalated.

That’s terrible, but is your belief that the situation would have gone better if in the middle of the robbery you tried to reach for a gun?

Sounds like it went about as well as a terrible situation can - and I would have a lot more ire for the police than anyone else in this situation.

You should not fight back; it’s not worth your life.

+1.

My guess is: you’ll get tons of hate from people disagreeing with you. But they will supply ZERO evidence.

I’m with Kamala on this issue.
