Do you keep a baseball bat by your bed?

I slept with the bat.

A baseball bat kept in the home is statistically far more likely to be used to hurt or kill a family member than an intruder.

First, I keep 3 throwing stars/shuriken on the nightstand to throw at any intruder. Then, they get charged at with my XL mag light in hand to fight in close quarters.

If that fails, I tell my wife to grab the bat to double-team the intruder. If they're not dead by then, I yell for the kids to get the shotgun to finish them off.

I haven't had any issues with intruders since instituting my plan.

Throwing stars and ninja weapons kept in the home are statistically far more likely to be used to hurt or kill a family member than an intruder.

Burglar 1: stealthy and looking to steal things. Good luck, I haven't gotten anything to steal and the dog sleeps downstairs. Have fun. They're not going to come into my bedroom and wake me up, and if they did, they're not looking to get in a fight, they're going to flee before I can get a good swing in. They want my stuff, not me.

Burglar 2: trying to kidnap me, my wife and children (for reasons unclear) or commit a terrible and random murder. Bat not going to stop them.

This is always what I figured. Burglar 1 will run off when the dog immediately starts barking and he realizes people are home. Burglar 2 is actually a murderous kidnapper psychopath who came with a gun and a plan and I’m screwed

Funny, it just occurred to me the other day that we haven't had a baseball bat under our bed in a few years (probably moved it when switching out our carpet a few years ago). My parents always kept one under theirs, so seemed normal to me. I did the same once DH and I bought our place.

No idea if it would do us any good should the situation arise, but worth a try I guess. Better than nothing.

We need to ban baseball bats. If it saves even one single life, it’s worth it !!
