Do you keep a baseball bat by your bed?

Cricket bat but even better idea!

DH used to travel frequently and I was home with 3DC. Still have the bay at the ready!

I grew up without a home alarm system and we had a lot of violent crime - shootings, fights where people we’re slashed, stabbed, and would run bleeding on our doorstep, etc. men would leave teenage me weird presents on the porch (I lived next to the neighborhood soup kitchen). I slept with the bat.

I had one under my bed 1993-1998, then upgraded to a machete.

Who do you imagine you’ll be shooting? Other than the people that whoever steals the gun from you shoots?

When my husband travels, I sleep with my car keys next to my bed so I can push the alert button and set off the car alarm if an intruder got inside.

Lots of random murders occur in "safe" places. The entire town of Moscow, Idaho hadn't had a single murder in 8 years prior to the college murders. Countless Moscow residents interviewed stated that no one in town even locks their doors.

Yeah a baseball bat wouldn’t have stopped that guy. Nothing would have.

No. I've never had an alarm system.

All you people with weapons: How many times have you used them?

Whoever who is stupid enough to come inside uninvited at night.

They'd likely shoot you with your own gun faster than you could shoot them.

+100

Morons who think they’re going to awake from a dead sleep and have a chance against … who?

If they’re a thief they’re not bothering you or threatening you and you’re not going to know they were there and wouldn’t have much ground to shoot them if you did… someone who is coming to kill you isn’t going to be stopped by your groggy ass mishandling a gun you don’t know how to use.

Mine too!

Multi layered defense strategy. Dog to alert on any unauthorized activity. 45 on the nightstand, AR-15 under the bed.

We were robbed at gunpoint inside our house in Chevy Chase DC. Luckily he took all of our wallets and phones and left. It took 30 minutes for the police to come, and when they did, one officer told me "welcome to DC, my wife sleeps with a gun under the bed, I recommend you do the same." We had lived in DC one week.
