The entire administration is led by abusers so I guess no surprise. The question for me is what do we DO. Seems that the only way is to get the remotely gutsy republicans in senate and house to help stop this?

There has to be another mechanism for funding research. Obviously there's private corporations doing research. What kind of private foundations fund research and how do we get more money to them ?
You have to get away from any money that Trump can get his hands in so that you can do some proper research.

The fact that a president can come in and completely stop all funding for science research is a bad situation anyway. I don't think people understand that every 4 years this President can fund research and then this President can take it away and then the next one can fund it and then the next one can take it away. Is it just that Trump is the only fool that actually blew it all up?

Private research does almost zero primary research…it’s just not a feasible use of private funds to throw billions at say 10 different wild theories on how to create sustainable nuclear fusion.

A country needs to decide if primary research is in its best strategic interests or not.

China and Russia certainly believe in it.

Also private industry is often reverse engineered to justify profit. Worked in the food industry for 20 years. Guess how many "doctors" on our payroll had research that corn syrup, food dyes, trans fats etc were "safe" or even "healthy". Similar to smoking. I don't want to rely on private research for the future of my children.
