| What happens at places like MIT? |
Those were just examples. The US military also invested heavily in medicine and so many doctors my Dad's age had their med school paid for by the US military. The military understands that a dumbed down society makes us vulnerable. |
True but since we voted for vulnerability and seem to be headed that way....how do we advise our students? |
I don't think anyone can even hazard a guess today, Feb 2nd. But the good (..or bad) news is that this is all moving at break-neck speed. Things should be much clearer in a week, a month, 6 months. Certainly by the time that rising college freshmen matriculate. The scientific/medical community as it exists today is entirely dependent on the federal government. Another issue not even on the top100 of concerns today: more than 80% of US medical students and residents train in VA facilities for weeks/months/years at some point in their training. I'm sure this administration plans to disband or privatize the VA. What will happen to the training of US doctors? Again, nobody knows. |
You are mistaken; she lost. |
Agree 100%. Blame the Dems for running an idiot. |
Honestly, we're starting to lose STEM kids to EU countries and it's going to accelerate. Serious brain drain. |
There is no confusion about who halted research funding. |
|
For those who blame democrats, are you kidding me??? This is BETTER? Trump is dangerous and a megalomaniac. Vance and Musk are even worse because they are smart. The infrastructure of democracy is being dismantled and you blame HARRIS???
Trump is literally following Project 2025 to the letter and I can’t see anything more extreme or fringe than that. |
Yes, it's weird the democrats are blamed for Republican actions. |
Not sure what you are talking about. Your candidate just allowed Musk the unelected official access to the entire country's banking system to use at his whim. But ok, keep blaming Dems for chaos. Time for MAGA to start acknowledging the mess they made. |
| Sadly, the rest of America does not care. I don't have any data on it, but I can imagine much of the economy of the DMV depends on the federal government directly through federal employment, indirectly through federal contracts, and indirectly through all of the services that those employed by the federal government or contractors consume. I suspect the federal government is a major source of household wealth in this area. The federal government is also a more diverse workforce than the private sector. My household has for 20 years depended on the federal government as our sole source of income, as my spouse and I have worked both directly for the federal government or as contractors. Three quarters of the people on my block in a suburb far outside the beltway are either are feds or contractors. We are all viewed as part of the problem by most of America. Our local reps in congress care, but they can't do anything. |
Classic abuse tactics. "It is your fault we voted for Trump". |
A ton of the rest of the country are essentially nihilists. They are upset they are losers and just want to punish winners. They have no illusion that their lives will improve…they just want to bring everyone down to their level. I have many family members who think like this and JD Vance profiled them perfectly in Hillbilly Elegy. |
