Has your DC’s fed govt internship been canceled/rescinded?

It's been cancelled for this summer.

Oh well….we deserve what we get…..

Not those of us that didn’t vote this

No, but if you had worked harder, gone into the office, and continued to do your fair share of the lifting during the past 5 years, we wouldn’t have reached such an extreme imbalance in our society, which is exactly what empowered Trump to sweep in and win. FAFO.

What extreme imbalance do you refer?

The new budget bill and tax cuts will widen any income imbalances.

It really is comical that the vast majority of Harris voters (you know…people with money) will end up dramatically better off financially than Trump’s voters.

At some point it becomes clear that losers in life will always be losers in life…it’s not due to immigrants or federal workers or whichever boogeyman you want to pick.

My sibling works at NIH and honestly they don't want to be there right now. Absolute shit show. My sister is having her long running experiments disrupted and research scrubbed. It's horrifying.

What is the future for science research? Should students now be fundamentally steered in a different different direction? I am really struggling to grasp what guidance is now appropriate for science and science research oriented students.

If we pick a better candidate and stop running on our craziest of the left wing agenda maybe we can win an election next time. We need to come back towards the middle.

It’s kind of nuts.

It’s becoming more clear that the Chinese government basically bought billions of dollars of Nvidia chips allowing DeepSeek to just spend “$6MM” to develop it.

You would think the reaction would be to increase government funding for basic scientific research.

This is a really good question and nobody knows yet. Almost all scientific research in this country is directly funded by or intertwined with federal funding. Medical schools and academic medical centers subsist on federal funds. The list goes on.

Probably not. But, here's hoping, to reduce the competition.

Only 37% of the population voted sad. Reap what you sow.

Why? What will be studied at these institutions and why will it benefit any student?

These internships and college degrees were important in the old economy. Why are they useful in this new country/economy?

Yep. It's shocking because anyone can tell you that STEM infrastructure development is a national security issue. The US Military funds STEM education programs because having domestic production of everything from chips to steel to polymers is a key part of military readiness.

Why is it only chips and steel and polymers? I thought the US military has a small pox vax? Sure I know vaccines are garbage......but everyone will need that garbage vax if smallpox ever gets loose again. Don't we need robust medical research as well?

This country is not really very concerned with national security issues. DOD also says climate change is a national security issue. The voters don't care about these things obviously based on the last election.

In any case....what are to do with our STEM loving students at this point?
