Right. They should not have done it in the first place but given they announced it 2 days ago they should have just kept it knowing they announced it early so that parents could make plans. Changing things around at the last minute and then claiming it's a moment of joy is disrespectful to thousands of families.

Yep, after parents already rescheduled everything

+2. I don't care if they have a delay tomorrow or not but why announce it on Tuesday for Thursday? Especially for "cold". Just announce Wednesday and wait until today to make a call for Thursday.

Anyone know if weather related delays also overlapped with any homeland alerts that may have been issued for the area (for obvious reasons such as last weekend and this week's events)?

It would be odd given DCPS appears to have operated normally all week (except for Monday, obviously)

Yup. Worse than usual even for MCPS.

This. Certainly some people reorganized their schedules to deal and that time/arrangement is not totally wasted. WOuld have been better to deal day by day as always.

The explanation is that administrators and central office staff wanted a two hour delay themselves.

My childcare provider opened extra late because they canceled their before care and then delayed another 2 hours

These people all need to be fired. Right now.

Agree. They messed up so bad yesterday, most high schools canceled sports practices that didn’t need to be and teens were already going home before MCPS changed the error.

Whoever decides who writes, edits, and submits these notifications needs to be fired.

You're looking at Taylor, Essie and Cram.

Don’t forget Dana Edwards!

I appreciate 1) early notice to plan, and 2) willingness to correct course rather than doubling-down to save face.

Should they probably have said "We anticipate a delay will be needed on Thursday but will assess and confirm Wednesday afternoon"? Yes. But generally speaking I'm good with how things were handled.

You're right! Dirty Dana is always in the mix when it comes to horrible decisions in MCPS.

A new low has been reached, there was no reason to announce early. No thought was apparently given to the many households that had to scramble to make arrangements for Thursday’s announced late arrival. More like MCPS Moment of Chaos!

Wow, you are good with this implementation? I am not ok with this incompetence.

I agree.

And MCPS calls it a moment of joy.

Two in ES? Get used to it it's the largest school district in MD.

As critical as I've been of the decision, I appreciate the attempt to give parents early notice to make plans. I just think it should have been obvious from the experience on Tuesday morning that we were going to be able to open on-time. And even if it wasn't immediately clear on Tuesday that we could open on Wednesday/Thursday, it should have been clear that another good experience on Wednesday was going to be enough to open on-time on Thursday.
