I'm going to call you out on this. I just took the time to look at those comments, and I don't see what you see... because it isn't there.

What I see is a couple of teachers who were frustrated because they changed their lesson plans to "accommodate [their] students only to be told 'never mind'". Another said it was a "major disruption to classroom plans." I did see ONE teacher write that it "reduces morale" and that the county "gave a gift and then took it away." That was ONE teacher. ONE. Overall? There are teachers who already spent time accommodating a delay who now have to throw away that wasted work. Yes, that's a frustration... and it happened because teachers worked ahead to help YOUR child have a useful day on a 2-hour delay.

I'm done letting DCUM posters insult my profession. I will not allow you to say that teachers "don't care". I won't allow you to imply that we are lazy and don't want to come in at our "regularly scheduled time."

Too many of us work too hard for this disrespect.

Did you really dig into all these profiles and research posters’ jobs? Did you Google names? This was worth your time? Your hate of teachers is next level and alarming. Worrisome, even.

And after all that unnecessary work, most of those comments aren’t even that bad. They don’t even paint the picture of horrible, complaining teachers you’re trying to sell.

Eh it doesn't look great. Entitled and disconnected from the rest of the world where everyone has been expected to go to work on time all week. And had one day off for the last snow storm (if they didn't telework on the first day), not 3.

Well, I took a look at just 2 of those profiles. Neither were teachers, even though the PP claimed they are. So it’s nothing other than a smear campaign.

So you can attribute those statements to parents, members of the MoCo community, etc.

But I'm glad you recognize those are awful statements to make about school opening on time and seem to agree they reflect poorly on teachers.

So should we also agree that many comments on that site reflect poorly on parents? Let’s hold all parents accountable for those comments, too.

Or we can relax and NOT judge entire communities for the words of individuals. I give that respect and I wish others would, as well.

LOL didn't you (or a PP) literally JUST try to blame the teachers' comments on a smear campaign by parents? GTFOOH.

Go back and check. I never blamed it on parents, just the PP.

So my point stands.

I don't understand, is MCPS living in some sort of parallel universe where ice melt is impossible to obtain? We just put it on our steps on Monday and the ice melted pretty quickly.

They were all teachers as has been pointed out to you, but your fixation on pinning this in parents is hilarious given you claim that we shouldn't blame a group for the actions of its members. Not to mention, most people don't post publicly about their jobs on social media for reasons that should be obvious, but clearly aren't.

Anyone who is that angry at teachers should be forced to homeschool their kids. I've never seen anything like this. Pathetic! (and I'm not a teacher)

We still need a make-up day.

One’s already built into the schedule. It’s in June. Now you can stop worrying.

DP. They have a bunch to choose from. Not clear that they will go with the June one.

I am a teacher and we were informally told that the last student day is now June 16th (it is an early release). The last day for teachers is now June 17th. I haven't seen it in writing, but that is what we were told.

There are going to be a lot of (rightfully) unhappy parents if Taylor skips 3 make-up days in the calendar in order to add an early release day to its own week at the very end of the year.

I don’t think most parents care. Only a vocal minority that seems to have nothing better to do but freak out about every little thing

I think most parents will roll their eyes. It would look pretty bad to demand millions in extra funding while at the same time doing your darndest to provide as few hours of education as humanely possible.

+1. Most people aren't "freaking out," but I haven't talked to a single parent who was happy about these delays. I can't imagine that will change if they decide to extend the school year to add a meaningless half day on a summer week where people already have plans.

Do you know any high school parents? I have high school age kids and I was so glad they got a chance to sleep in

This thread is rife with central office staff trying to justify their laughable incompetence by arguing on an anonymous board and hoping they disguise their role in CO.

I think I can name them similar to the way I was able to name all of the numbers on the silly Jackson Lewis report.

Once again: I did *not* pin it on parents. This isn’t difficult. All you have to do is reread.

I also don’t believe those comments can all be attributed to teachers. But let’s play with that idea for a second: even if they are, notice how you cherry-picked those comments and ignored the many others. (And you really searched all those profiles? And you don’t see that as problematic behavior?)

And you are correct: most people don’t post about their jobs. Are you able to give any credit to the many teachers who don’t? Or are they all condemned in your eyes because of the actions of a few?

That level of hate has to be hard to live with.

I'm sorry if this was unclear - I'm not the same person who looked up the profiles. I did notice one of the names is a teacher at my kid's school.

You may be surprised to know that I don't hate teachers, nor do I blame them for the school delays this week. Though you really seem to want to think that, so you can insult me.

I do think MCPS's initial decision to delay school for three days was bizarre, and to not allow childcare providers to operate on time was truly beyond the pale. I also think comments indicating the union should complain about school opening on time are unprofessional and indicate some teachers think of this as some sort of benefit they are entitled to. And that makes me wonder how they got that idea.

So my point stands.

I imagine you'll try to claim this wasn't you, but I don't care:

Well, I took a look at just 2 of those profiles. Neither were teachers, even though the PP claimed they are. So it’s nothing other than a smear campaign.

So you can attribute those statements to parents, members of the MoCo community, etc.

And my point STILL stands.

The comments I was referring to are the comments the PP attributed to teachers. Some aren’t teachers, and are therefore parents or members of the community.

The smear campaign? The PP.

And I agree: this thread should be locked. Like always, it just becomes teacher bashing.

They are all teachers. We can't name the teachers, but if you list the comments you think aren't from teachers I'll give a more specific affiliation within their school.

Or don’t. This says a lot about you PP.
