This. It’s not actually better than other flagships.

It is.

Prove it.

Well get admitted OOS like I did and attend. Then you’ll know.

They didn’t teach you how to craft a better argument? At least we know your opinion might be biased.

Sorry you didn’t get admitted.

lol what a weak rebuttal

It’s the kind of response that people around here think is clever.

Must be a provincial crowd.

Anonymous wrote:Ours got in unhooked OOS last year. FCPS. Almost 4.6/1580. Normal ECs, good amount of leadership, but nothing crazy. Not sure other than stats what tipped the scales.

DD got in unhooked with similar stats and normal EC from MCPS, NMF, CS major. This is her only acceptable from top 30

Next Friday 1/31

UNC, UVA and UMD are all Firday 1-31 so a lot of hearts may be broken next Friday in the DMV

DD's heart is already broken from 12/15 with UVA's ED rejection.

Unhooked and 1,580 SAT is an oxymoron. That was your hook.

Yeah, that's not a hook. That's just high stats.

This. A hook is something that:

Allows someone with lower stats to be admitted over someone else and/or

Gives the app preference for an early admission and/or

Allows someone with good stats to be admitted over others with good or better stats

- low income
- recruited
- first gen
- location you’re from (rural, state where the school has few to no applicants)
- famous/rich kid or parent(s)
-minority

My unhooked kid was accepted from the HS 2024 graduating class. Test optional, OOS. From a public, non magnet HS in the DMV. Excellent extra curriculars (leadership, significant impact, varied but also numerous ones that made the kid pointy, employment, research, etc.) and high rigor and excellent but not perfect grades. I honestly think that it was b/c this kid had a very unique twist that the admission was offered. By that I mean if you heard about this kid's academic path, it would be remembered. UNC CH was ultimately turned down for a better ranked and preferred school but it was strongly considered.

It is definitely possible to get in OOS, unhooked.

NP here. No the response of “prove it” is what posters think make them oh so clever.

What makes a school great for one student may not for another for all types of reasons. How is a PP supposed to “prove” that Carolina (no one calls it UNC-CH) is worth it and may be better than UVA or UMD? One person says it is, another says it’s not. Poster asking for someone to prove it is the disingenuous one.

The school also doesn’t have an artificially induced low acceptance rate. It’s mandated by law since the 80s.

It’s a lazy comment, to be sure. But no, the whole “sorry you didn’t get admitted/your kid didn’t get admitted/your kid didn’t get a bid” type comments that come up regularly here as if they are good comebacks just show how socially and intellectually stunted many of the people on this forum are.

I follow a lot of the track runners and I was surprised by a recent commit from out of state who honestly- doesn't seem like the caliber for a recruit?
