UNC- Chapel Hill

Keep in mind that 8 percent oos acceptance rate includes recruited athletes, the unhooked oos accepted rate is far lower. I don’t know any unhooked candidates who got in, the handful I know attending are either legacies or athletic recruits. Rumor is that oos legacies are treated as in state applicants with respect to stats.

I believe the 8% also includes internationals

My kid applied because they were a Morehead Cain nominee and also because of UNC's Chancellor's Science Scholarship program, which is a full-ride for science majors:

Same here. My student was a semifinalist this year but didn’t make it to the finalist round. Was accepted to UT so hoping for a similar result for UNC and the honors college. Was also accepted REA to a HYP.

Just looked at the Scoir for DC’s private school in DMV. Acceptance rate is 30 percent, with average GPA/SAT at 95/1480.

$$$. OOS pay more. UVA only gets 12% of its operating budget from state funds.

Already posted as NC resident. I haven’t heard of the oos legacy being treated as in-state, but can definitely confirm plenty of legacy kids are denied.

If UVA was an option, I wouldn’t spend the money. My own was a Jefferson semi-finalist, once that didn’t pan out, no way I’d pay oos tuition. Similar enough.

Are you sure it’s 12%? I read closer to 6%.

Similar for our private though sometimes UNC goes rogue.

It sucks that UNS they give Legacy status on OOS students and the large amount of OOS Sports Scholarships. Leaves very little spots for non legacy, non athletes from OOS.

UVA the taxpayers of VA decided on purpose to underfund UVA and to make up for it over charge OOS kids. Which is why they have more OOS kids.

My daughter applied. UNC stopped Legacy in State but it alive well Out of State.

My kid applied UVA, UNC both OOS so waiting for next Friday to see what happens. UVA is a BIG NO if no merit aid.

Same. My kid also applied OOS for both UNC and UVA. Both are big nos with no merit.

UVA doesn't really do merit aid so I think you will be disappointed.

This was over ten years ago, but I applied to both UVA and UNC OOS. Got into UVA, rejected from UNC. Many of my OOS peers at UVA had a similar experience.

This. It’s not actually better than other flagships.

It is.
