| The library has lots of books and audiobooks! I’m listening to one now. I just go to the store and am not buying stuff. |
No, refusing to give my money to corporations that support the destruction of America and violate human rights is not hypocritical. If you find supporting the destruction of the United States of America and violating human rights is hypocritical to your values, than why don’t you march out of this thread and start one that aligns with what you believe? Everyone has an agenda, lady. |
For me it was the $40 million deal for Meania’s documentary. Not giving her my money. |
DP here. Wasn’t Walmart evil 5 minutes ago? Costco? Talk about the promotion of mass consumerism. And, it’s basically a cult. Amazon employs a number of my friends and keeps many other people employed. Despite the rosy numbers, jobs are tough to find. I don’t support them being unemployed. Pick your poison. Wrap it up in virtue, if that helps. |
| Costco pays its employees well and hasn’t given Trump any money. Stop pretending it’s all the same. Raise you standards. |
You don't seem to have any concrete, valid criticism of Costco (buying is fine, and liking a store's products and policies does not make someone a cult member), so I'll keep shopping there. Maybe some day you'll care about people collapsing in warehouses. For your friends' sake, I hope so. |

For all of you raging against big bad Amazon by canceling prime, are you also avoiding websites that use AWS too??? Cuz you should be by your logic.
Good luck with that! |
Enjoy your fascist oligarchy. I’m glad it brings you comfort to know that you just rolled over for them to destroy your country. Different strokes. |
"Meania"? Is this what we're calling her now? Either a typo or another internet trend that I've missing. |
Just a typo. My phone never gets her name right and I don’t care enough to fix it. |
Same. Left before because it is a terrible company and don’t miss it. |
We do what we can as we can do it. We do not quit because we can’t achieve perfection today. People are in different stages of wanting to reduce consumption and be more aware of/in control of where there money goes. And no one needs your permission. |
Why do you feel the need to bully and belittle people who are doing something different than you? |
This is the key point. All of you pointing out that it’s impossible to completely divest of every company doing bad in the world so why bother doing anything are lazy cynics. It’s fine if you want to surrender—that’s your choice. But criticizing others for taking small steps where they can is just telling on yourself. OP asked for alternatives to Prime. If you aren’t interested in helping with that request, there’s nothing keeping you in this thread. |
| Thanks for this thread. This is the first time I’ve seriously considered cancelling Prime (it is just so convenient). But I think I’m finally at that point. |
