Sure. But how many of them buy newspapers and then refuse to let the editorial board of that paper do their job without interference? Hmm???

There’s the LA Times guy I guess. But if you really want to be consistent you need to have nothing to do with Apple, Microsoft, Google, Meta, Home Depot and a ton of others. That’s not easy to do without being dead.

Wait. Bill Gates killed an editorial by the newspaper he owns? Stop comparing apples and oranges! I’m consistently doing my best to boycott the sycophants who promise Trump good publicity and lots of money.

Bill Gates isn’t really relevant. If you want to talk about Microsoft it’s Satya Nutella now. He’s taken the company down the toilet pretty hard, unless your concern is stock price. But it has turned into another garbage corporation.

Triggered is right

Why do you feel the need to bully and belittle people who are doing something different than you?

DP here. Because it's so stupid to have this attitude of "punishing" a business because you don't like a CEO or what have you. First of all, it's a business. Second of all, if I showed you what all the big businesses do I will bet you a big bag of money that 98% of them have done or are doing something just as hypocritical, unsavory, borderline ethical, etc. as Bezos et al. They may not be at Trump's Inauguration and they may not be high profile with actions attracting much publicity, but running a big business is just not sunshine and roses.

Now, you can say - but I see Bezos and I want to teach him a lesson! But that's so immature and foolish. You don't teach him a lesson. If 50% of Prime customers left, he would still be doing remarkably well. He's built his business. Between AWS, how many customers he already has, his other investments/current business built up, you can't touch him. It's just such a stupid thing to do and it makes people who haven't thought through this kind of thing just end up hurting themselves. Prime is a service. As a mom, let me tell you, it's a lifesaver. As a consumer, the options you get on prime when you don't have to worry about ship costs on 99% of what I want is truly awesome. I hate Bezos too. But I don't hate him enough to hate myself and be so impractical as to believe that by denying myself, I'm actually hurting him at all. You can find someone much more of value to be noble for.

It's like climate change. It's like people who won't use A/C or whatever. OK - you won't make a dent in anything except to sweat your ass off. It's your choice but to promote this idea of nobility that you're somehow sacrificing to save all of us on earth is ridiculous. In the end, you hurt yourself. I say, use your A/C, drive, fly, eat meat, don't worry about how you're affecting climate change via your habits. Instead - DONATE to people who are researching solutions to how we're going to live when it'll be too hard to achieve a stable climate. OR, help think of solutions for when that time comes when none of us will be doing well. Look into where you can function when climate change hits your home - start saving up or something for a second home. Do something meaningful. But to just say - oh - what a horrible man Bezos is - I'm going to boycott Prime because I think he's wrong! That's just such a dumb reaction. You would need to boycott 1000 other companies or you are a total hypocrite because he's not the only one bowing down to Trump, guaranteed. Now, if you truly don't find yourself needing Prime as a business, that's legit. But be practical and honest about it. Prime is not just books for sure, there is a reason why Bezos is a billionaire, don't kid yourself on how good a business Amazon really is.

It all matters. This is how you’re choosing to change things, and that’s fine—great, even! But that doesn’t invalidate other methods of trying to make change.

You’ve created a strawman—“you think you’re teaching Bezos a lesson, but you’re not—you’re just punishing yourself!”—but if you actually listen to the people on this thread, they’re saying something else: they want to reduce support of businesses they believe are doing harm in the world. And for many, they don’t feel like leaving Amazon costs them much since the shopping experience is so janky. Many of us on here are moms, and leaving Amazon has not changed our qualify of life. It’s indispensable for you, and that’s fine. No one here is telling you to change your habits. But you seem very invested in convincing other people that their decision to stop using Amazon is wrong and bad. Why is that?

Agreed!

Bezos owns stock. He does not take an income. He is not running Amazon and not hands on. However, many many people are employed by amazon and you are hurting them.

Cry me a river. You sound like you’re doing PR for Amazon. He benefits from the stock. Amazon exploits their employees- don’t act like they’re some savior.

Amazon is a huge company and it depends on the job, team and supervisor. Just like any job. We benefit from stock too and Amazon feeds our family. You clearly have no clue how it works.

What about all the families that were fed by businesses that Amazon drove out of business?

You also seem to be saying that the rest of us have an obligation to use a corporation that gives money to the GOP to support your family. What are you doing to support my family?

For those claiming that Bezos has nothing to do with Amazon, he owns around 920 million shares. That’s about $220 billion. The vast majority of his ~$250 billion net worth.

He owns stock which is about 10%. He no longer runs it.

It doesn’t matter whether he runs it. Amazon stock comprises nearly 90% of his wealth. Reduce Amazon’s value, reduce Jeff’s wealth.

It’s disturbing and funny how hard some posters are working to dissuade people from making choices about their own money.

This is so silly. I'm sure his wealth is diversified and he invests. He isn't going to go broke because you stop buying. Who it will impact is all the workers at Amazon who rely on it to feed their families. My spouse works for Amazon, part of the pay is stock. So, yes, we will continue to by from Amazon as that's how we feed, clothe and house our family.

Look, I’m sorry. I am. But we are all going to suffer one way or another until this crime organization masquerading as a presidential administration is gone. Elections have consequences. Money is the only language these corporations speak. We have to vote with our wallets. And Amazon giving Melania $40 million is a bribe. Pay to play. Grease the palms. And I am not supporting it.

Yes, that was me. Like I said, if you’re annoyed with MS then you need to direct your ire at Nutella. He’s their CEO and was the one pandering at the inauguration on MS’s behalf. Not sure what you’re babbling about regarding moving goalposts.

It’s not silly, it’s math. Amazon stock comprises 90% of his net worth. He’s actually spectacularly not diversified. Reduce the value of the stock, reduce his net worth. No, he won’t go broke, but people do have power to significantly reduce his wealth.

No one cares if YOU buy from Amazon. Others have various reasons for choosing to stop. Which is apparently very triggering for you.

Whether MS or Amazon or all of the Fortune techs really but you crawl into your hole and keep patting yourself on the back for making zero impact on these giants of industry all the while hurting those who really need the money from working there.

Apple, Microsoft, and Google didn’t pay Melania $40 million for her documentary. Amazon did.

And this is what's ultimately eating you? Are you for real cause that's the dumbest reason to be mad at Amazon. Are you even aware at how many other abuse of power as a company they've been accused of and are guilty of?

Let's be real. It's not Amazon you're rebelling against and Bezos that you hate. It's Trump. That's who triggers you.

The problem is more people like him than you hate him. I do not happen to be one of the Trump fans but I have accepted that he's been voted into office and accepting that my distaste is for him separate from just being mad unreasonably at the entire world is is a healthier way to be. Man, we're talking 4 years of this so you're in for a long mental breakdown unless you get sensible!

Say it with me - Bezos, Gates, et al - they are not Trump.

This is so hyperbolic and ridiculous. I work for Amazon, and it's absolutely in my interest for their stock price to soar, but just like I don't vote based on what's the best for ME personally, I would never begrudge someone for sticking to their values and voting with their dollars/feet through personal boycotts. That's totally fine, I do it too.

Personally, I do think individual boycotts even on a pretty broad scale don't move the needle here in the way they would with a company that was primarily retail focused.

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit, huh. I will say this slowly so you can follow. Many people on this thread have pointed out that Jeff Bezos doesn't run Amazon day-to-day. However, his wealth is derived in large part from his Amazon stock holdings. Similarly, Bill Gates doesn't run Microsoft day-to-day. Not sure why you think that I thought he did, but again, you seem challenged by logical reasoning. Bill Gates derives the bulk of his fortune from Microsoft. To be clear, even if they seek stock in the companies they founded and buy stock in other companies, it is only the financial success of their companies that allowed them to do that. Jeff Bezos took some of his money, and he bought the Washington Post. Bill Gates did not do that. Bill Gates is not trading his dignity for Trump favors. Doesn't matter that he doesn't run Microsoft.

You take care.

I hate to break this to you, but every single one of the Trump voters love their country and *voted for Trump because they loved their country*. And they won the election.

A lot of people also voted for Trump in part because they were tired of major companies taking a "moral" stance on everything and judging and shaming customers who disagreed. We went through a pretty unusual period between 2018-2024 and it just wore people out.

You were welcome to shop at those places. I go for price.

I plan ahead and go to my local shops. I call ahead if I'm worried about a wasted trip. I don't even look online to price compare.

I’m not doing this because I hate Trump, I’m doing this because I love my country. I can tell that you are naive to the connections I’ve made and you’re not open to understanding them. So good luck to you during what will be a very hard time for all of us. I will not passively watch this country be stripped for parts and sold to our enemies with the help of these billionaires greasing the palm of the mob boss because they aren’t satisfied with the billions they already have. Hell no.

Tell me you’ve never taken a comparative government, European History, or political psychology course without telling me.
