Youngkin isn't focused on Virginia anymore. He's looking towards a position in the Trump Administration or a Presidential run.

If it's for President, he'd try and win his own swing state, yes? Which would mean not tanking its economy?

I mean, that would be logical but there's no logic with the MAGAs.

If the Dem party doesn't get their act together by 2028 and they run another Biden level candidate, any GOP idiot candidate can win again in 2028 just as Trump did in 2024.

Yeah no. Trump is some sort of messiah figure for MAGA. Without him they have nothing.

Unfortunately, this is wrong and Dems will lose in 2028 if they are this arrogant again. Most people don’t want “expanded legal pathways for immigration”, “environmental justice”, more “wrap around services”, eliminating single family zoning, “educational equity”, “violence interrupters” or any of this nonsense. Until democrats get their act together and pick people normal people that don’t sound like unhinged lunatics from a green peace event or just stop oil protest they will continue to lose.

Agree that dems need to stop talking like that. But what do repubs have without Trump? There is no unifying message. They are constantly in-fighting about policy. They can't even be unified in their racism (see: the H1-B visa fight). Are they going to run solely on a message of "let's get the trans kids"?

Most People are mad about H-1Bs due to lowering Americans wages. This is why there was such an uproar about this. There are economic costs to US workers that are being completely ignored by the proponents of this policy. It made people even more upset that tech bros had the audacity to call Americans lazy because they don’t want their wages undercut by immigrants that are being exploited through the H-1B program.

Youngkin would be cutting his own throat by gutting the federal workforce.

The man is a fool.

Not only don’t Americans want their wages undercut, but Tech in particular has done huge layoffs while the companies take in huge profits. Meanwhile there are kids fighting to get into Computer Science programs in college not to mention get a job upon graduation. And we won’t talk about the number of Tech workers who have been made contractors or made to trade their replacements from other countries. Musk message was tone deaf and a$$nine to the realities in the ground.

Racist.

She's staunchly anti-choice...that's not "outstanding" for many Virginians.

Perhaps she knows how Margeret Sanger, founder of “Planned Parenthood” despised black people more than anyone in American history.

Sanger enabled the death of more black fetuses (future men and women of America) than anyone else in American history.

Sears is indeed against the slaughter of countless Americans, of every hue.

How about we start supporting women who feel they have no other option, but abortion?

Women deserve better.

I guess we could start by offering them free, over the counter birth control.

Oh wait....

But Trump then echoed Musk. So I guess Trump wants to undercut American wages, and MAGA supporters agree.

That is true, and even if there was a real need for this program 30+ years ago, there is little real need for it today beyond enriching the oligarchs. There are approx 65k new HxB visas issued yearly. People can stay up to 9 years on these. There are roughly 700k-800k workers here on this visa at any given time. About 60% of these workers are working in software. With all the layoffs in tech and the fact that domestic enrollment in CS programs has doubled over the past decade this program is shameful. Many skilled US workers are unemployed while they import cheap labor from the 3rd world.

Trump is transactional and $250 million buys a lot of agreement

Plenty of MAGA feds live in Hampton Roads, parts of which are almost completely dependent on federal government jobs and money.

Virginia is one of the most dependent on federal employment, and the only way to cut the budget seriously is to cut DOD employment and funds. And if you don't want NATO, you don't really need the massive DOD expenditures anymore.

Trump is bluffing about NATO. He will beef up DoD especially space programs.

Well he's gotta pay off Musk, after all!

The problem is, half the federal government is likely Republican — I know at my agency, about half are.

Because they know firsthand the waste

My fed friends call it middle class welfare

Yeah, I know a number of Republicans fed at my agency who don't hardly do anything. Is that what you mean?

How dumb of him.

Sounds just as dumb as the Texas governor expressing condolences about Jimmy Carter to the dead Roslyn Carter.

NoVA underwrites the rest of the state.

And most of the federal jobs in VA are with defense - DOD, individual branches, IC, etc - full of white male veterans who largely vote for Republicans.

Hope they are happy about their vote!
