It's truly amazing when a politician takes aim at the economic prosperity of his own state. Even if you are a MAGA, you get why a bunch of people around you getting fired does not do well for your economic outlook, right?
Youngkin isn't focused on Virginia anymore. He's looking towards a position in the Trump Administration or a Presidential run.
If it's for President, he'd try and win his own swing state, yes? Which would mean not tanking its economy? I mean, that would be logical but there's no logic with the MAGAs.
If the Dem party doesn't get their act together by 2028 and they run another Biden level candidate, any GOP idiot candidate can win again in 2028 just as Trump did in 2024.
Yeah no. Trump is some sort of messiah figure for MAGA. Without him they have nothing.
Unfortunately, this is wrong and Dems will lose in 2028 if they are this arrogant again. Most people don’t want “expanded legal pathways for immigration”, “environmental justice”, more “wrap around services”, eliminating single family zoning, “educational equity”, “violence interrupters” or any of this nonsense. Until democrats get their act together and pick people normal people that don’t sound like unhinged lunatics from a green peace event or just stop oil protest they will continue to lose.
Agree that dems need to stop talking like that. But what do repubs have without Trump? There is no unifying message. They are constantly in-fighting about policy. They can't even be unified in their racism (see: the H1-B visa fight). Are they going to run solely on a message of "let's get the trans kids"?
Most People are mad about H-1Bs due to lowering Americans wages. This is why there was such an uproar about this. There are economic costs to US workers that are being completely ignored by the proponents of this policy. It made people even more upset that tech bros had the audacity to call Americans lazy because they don’t want their wages undercut by immigrants that are being exploited through the H-1B program.
That is true, and even if there was a real need for this program 30+ years ago, there is little real need for it today beyond enriching the oligarchs. There are approx 65k new HxB visas issued yearly. People can stay up to 9 years on these. There are roughly 700k-800k workers here on this visa at any given time. About 60% of these workers are working in software. With all the layoffs in tech and the fact that domestic enrollment in CS programs has doubled over the past decade this program is shameful. Many skilled US workers are unemployed while they import cheap labor from the 3rd world.
