It's truly amazing when a politician takes aim at the economic prosperity of his own state. Even if you are a MAGA, you get why a bunch of people around you getting fired does not do well for your economic outlook, right?

Plenty of MAGA feds live in Hampton Roads, parts of which are almost completely dependent on federal government jobs and money.

Virginia is one of the most dependent on federal employment, and the only way to cut the budget seriously is to cut DOD employment and funds. And if you don't want NATO, you don't really need the massive DOD expenditures anymore.

NoVA underwrites the rest of the state.

And most of the federal jobs in VA are with defense - DOD, individual branches, IC, etc - full of white male veterans who largely vote for Republicans.
