MCPS delayed Thursday?

I’m not arguing for schools to be closed, I’m wondering why they are not open today.

Because, collectively, we're a society of risk averse pussies and complainers whose children are content playing in the snow for hours but can't walk ten minues to school or wait at a bus stop for five minutes.

Wah wah!

Yep, those kids are out their for hours in not just snow but this very cold temps playing in snow for hours! "It's healthy for them."

Schools will be closed tomorrow I bet.

Someone commented that the last time it snowed this much, schools were closed for a week. Likely the same story this time.

I think I count myself among many parents who would blow their tops if schools are closed Thursday. (I don't even have a school-aged kid, but my toddler's preschool follows MCPS's schedule even though everything is plowed around here and we're near a Metro stop.)

Our former preschool tried to do that and quickly reversed the decision after parent complaints. I would look for a different daycare. Most follow the county government rather than the schools.

The question to ask is why is your UMC neighborhood in Bethesda, with its million + dollar houses, still covered in ice? How, in 2025 America, is this still possible when so many other roads are jus fine?

Fyi..Howard called 2 hour delay and realized that was the wrooooong call and switched to closed! Conditions unlikely to improve by tomorrow.

I understand that refreezing will happen, but if nothing improves in 24 hours, it means no work was done to clean up, and management should resign.

Do you think the county prioritizes based on wealth of the neighborhood?

The county didn’t finish plowing roads until yesterday evening, and according to the snow page, there was a lot of drift in Poolesville and Damascus.

Which means the roads were plowed today. And every school I went by yesterday had parking lots and sidewalks already cleared.

They could have opened today. They could have opened *on time* today, but at least could have opened with a delay if they wanted a chance to clean things up. And certainly there is no excuse for closing child care programs.

Parenting is hard🥺

How do you know no work was done?? Are you out there monitoring each sidewalk, walkway, parking lot? This is just what it is - temps are low, refreezing will happen, bus stops won't be accessible. Not every area of county is in same condition nor have the same street layout. Some streets may still not have seen a plow.

Tailor talked a big game but he's just as ineffective as the others. 2 hours delay or closed.

All the money in the world can't control the climate. Melting snow refreezes into ice. It's dangerous to drive on ice.

And for my situation right now, it's a little different when the school you're paying $2000/mo for is closed, not the public school.

Why is this true? Why can't they create zones and open some, even if others can't?

My kids are having a blast without school. I’m still able to get work done. They’ve been outside nonstop and have barely been on electronics. It’s part of parenting. Also some of you really have complaining issues. As my older son likes to say, it’s not that deep!
