MCPS delayed Thursday?

And for my situation right now, it's a little different when the school you're paying $2000/mo for is closed, not the public school.

This is the Montgomery County Public Schools board.

My child attends a preschool that follow's MCPS's decisions. (Also he'll be attending an MCPS kindergarten in a couple years so I do have a stake here.)

Mmkay. Well, your “$2,000/mo” is irrelevant here.

I’m not arguing for schools to be closed, I’m wondering why they are not open today.

The county didn’t finish plowing roads until yesterday evening, and according to the snow page, there was a lot of drift in Poolesville and Damascus.

Which means the roads were plowed today. And every school I went by yesterday had parking lots and sidewalks already cleared.

They could have opened today. They could have opened *on time* today, but at least could have opened with a delay if they wanted a chance to clean things up. And certainly there is no excuse for closing child care programs.

The closing of child care programs shows that they really don’t care about families at all.

Are you the preschool poster? Perhaps they follow county rules because the preschool workers come in from all over the county?

You don’t have a stake. But ok whatever.

I drove by 5 schools yesterday afternoon and 2 of those schools had not been touched.

Yes, I agree that makes sense! I don't want any of my child's teachers to drive in unsafely. But I was responding to a poster who suggested schools might be closed Thursday, which I think seems ridiculous.

Who is going to watch the little ones if teachers can't get to the childcare center? Not everyone lives in that neighborhood where the street has been plowed 10 times 🙄!

DP. It is ridiculous but if you are going to be an MCPS parent you need to get used to ridiculous snow decisions. It is always closed much longer than is reasonable. I am hoping they open on time tomorrow, but I think a delay is most likely and a closure still possible. I am especially upset that they forced child-care programs to close at schools today. If they hadn’t, extended-day providers could keep the little kids busy.

Does MCPS have their own plow, shoveling, salting services team? Or do they wait for county's snow team to finish roads before they start on clearing schools?

I guess you could enter the address of schools in your neighborhood into the County's snow removal portal to see when they are being serviced? But wondering if resources (including humans) are limited and that's caung the need for school closures?

Because, collectively, we're a society of risk averse pussies and complainers whose children are content playing in the snow for hours but can't walk ten minues to school or wait at a bus stop for five minutes.

Wah wah!

The roads in my Bethesda neighborhood were covered in ice this morning. I think it was the correct call to close. I expect a delay or closure tomorrow. Temps will still be below freezing.

Open on time on Thursday.
