I am fine with it because she already has a 34 on her ACT (35's in math and reading)...so a very good shot at a 35 superscore at the very least (if not a 35 when she retakes it). She knows that the only test that really matters is the ACT or SAT.

Does commended index change much from year to year?

It was 208 this year and 207 the three prior years. So not impossible, but I am not planting that seed for her to get excited about.

It is fascinating to me to hear about students taking multiple PSATs. My DD's school only offers it in 11th and they really downplay it. Personally, I think my DD, who may have just missed the cutoff for commended scholar, could have benefitted from taking it in 10th grade. She's an ACT kid, so has not been prepping for the SAT.

A bunch of 11th graders got above 1450 at my kids school. My kid got 1420 and very disappointed. He thinks he won’t even become commended

His August SAT was 1530.

Both my boys scored higher in 10th than in 11th.

My DD's score in 10th was part of the calculation to focus on ACT as the better test for her. The way they ask the questions requires more deciphering on the P/SAT, and that does not play to her strengths.

Silly rabbit.
That’s bc those Covid years were completely test optional

Remember-in NON-Covid years the psat is delivered at school to ALL juniors, which means a lot of kids who wouldn’t normally score very high take the test. Most public schools were not in session during 2019-2020 and did not administer the test.

The PSAT/NMSQT scores of HS class of 2019 and Class of 2020 were not affected by the pandemic because they took 11th grade PSAT prior to Covid shutdown. The cutoff index before the pandemic was higher.

Mine did way worse as 10th grader. Sigh.

Yea we’re sitting over here with a 940 wondering if college is even an option

100% it is there if your kid wants it. Even if the GPA isn’t high either.

Silly Rabbit.

Class on 2019 was pre covid.

Class of 2020 lost all their 2nd semester fun senior stuff to covid, but PSAT NMSF was not part of that loss.

Same for mine but didnt bother to study and I caught her up late the night before on the internet. 1100, 10th grade. Hoping this lights the fire since she was disappointed.

It's absolutely still an option. Non-flagship state university is probably the way to go.

My kid has 1500 with a 224 index. Same for one of the 15 or so friends in their chat. Given their school had only 6 NMSF last class I wonder if the cutoff this year will be above 224 - this is VA. Just because if it is 6-7 NMSF again and I know 2 of them that’s highly unlikely. They are a very motivated bunch, but still.

Not sure why folks are caring on about perceived low PSAT10 and PSAT. Lots of maturing will likely occur until the actual SAT. NO colleges care about PSAT10. Most "DCUM colleges" don't give a crap if your kid is NMSF. We had one. A couple of scholarship offers, but it doesn't help you to get into UVA, MIT or ivies.
