Dd got a 1250 last year in 10th. She got a 1380 on the SAT in August.

Somehow she pulled out a 1470 with an index of 223!!!

This is a weird result that does not inspire confidence in College Board.

Digital test has gotten too easy. The jumps from 10th to 11th for so many are too dramatic. 1510/10th with only a few dozen practice questions on question bank.

1380. DC is not happy but I am.

1490 11th -222 index - hope that will be high enough.

What does the index signify?

The index is used to determine if they qualify for national merit. Index is verbal x 2 + math ÷ 10.

Every state has a different cutoff and semifinalists won't be notified until next September

Why does verbal count twice when colleges are increasingly focusing more on STEM?

They use it for National Merit Scholarship cutoff. Varies for each state - top 1% of each state

DD probably just missed the cutoff for commended with a 1390 and an index of 207. I am fine with it because she already has a 34 on her ACT (35's in math and reading)...so a very good shot at a 35 superscore at the very least (if not a 35 when she retakes it). She knows that the only test that really matters is the ACT or SAT.
