I am fine with it because she already has a 34 on her ACT (35's in math and reading)...so a very good shot at a 35 superscore at the very least (if not a 35 when she retakes it). She knows that the only test that really matters is the ACT or SAT.

Does commended index change much from year to year?

Yes but hovers at 206-208
For this years’ seniors, it’s 208, so PP may be right that she may miss cutoff but it’s also possible that the index number for next year (meaning for the juniors who just took psat this year) could be 207 or lower. you can find the info around May of this coming year.

Mine did way worse as 10th grader. Sigh.

Yea we’re sitting over here with a 940 wondering if college is even an option

Of course it is. You will find the right school for your DC. Don't pay any attention to the scores posted here. WE know the crowd that posts on DCUM. The vast majority of kids are likely in the same boat as your DC.
My kids is 10th. The text chain with her friend has a range of scores which include similar to your DC's. It is very early. The purpose of the PSAT is to allow for time to prepare, work on areas of improvement and try again. You got this.

Just so someone else can be helped, my 2nd kid now has gotten 1010 on the 10th grade PSAT.

It isn't the end of the world people. And also, with test optional it definitely isn't.

So if you're someone else out there with a lower scoring kid, it's all gonna be ok. My senior who had the 1st 1010 is doing great in school. 10 AP, remainder honors.

I was just looking at historical cut offs for commended. The recent years' have been around 207-208 but class of 2019 and 2020 had cutoff index 212. So could it be as high as 212?

Can you compare this psat with august or October sat score?

My current senior had psat 10 score of 1130. He has a mid-1500 sat superscore. Used and highly recommend capital educators.

They don’t.
But if your score index’s (the number in the 200s) qualifies you for national merit semi-finalist or commended scholar (which is 208 or above for the seniors who took PSAT last year) you should put that in common app under honors/awards

Silly rabbit.
That’s bc those Covid years were completely test optional

Remember-in NON-Covid years the psat is delivered at school to ALL juniors, which means a lot of kids who wouldn’t normally score very high take the test. Most public schools were not in session during 2019-2020 and did not administer the test.

That’s encouraging.
Mine got 1300 (10th)
What did that 1440 number give your DC as a NMSC index number this year PP?

216-- so probably commended, but not NMSF.
