to play better competition? Someone asked about tournaments and someone gave them an option. I understand if it cuts into your local tournament and the money you personally make from it, but Spirit is a good tournament. Besides, Downingtown PA is only like 90 minutes from Baltamore

There is absolutely no reason any team in the DMV needs to drive far distance and stay in hotel to play preseason games.

What are the things a coach/team and more importantly an individual player needs to work on in a game that they can't do against a local team?
Be specific.

I like the preseason tournaments far away. Great for team bonding, especially for the new players on the team, a fun low key getaway before everything gets hectic when school starts. Teams that like each other play better together. There are a lot more benefits to travel soccer than just soccer.

Most sports leagues? like the nfl, mlb, etc? they do that because there aren't comparable teams in other leagues.

It doesn't apply to local youth soccer, or even top level soccer. There are plenty of same level opponents in other leagues and it's good to have variety in opponent for sports reasons as well as just to increase the level of interest, i.e. play teams you don't usually see.

So playing a local team not in their league or division isn't a variety in opponent?

If you need to travel to New Jersey to play a team to increase your interest, you are in the wrong sport.

What do you think you're responding to? I explicitly suggested exactly what you're saying . . ."same level opponents in other leagues" and "local youth soccer." I was responding to the suggestion that the leagues schedule scrimmages amongst their own teams. Who said anything about New Jersey?

Pretty low. They had to beg for entrants last year, cash in favors and waive fees to fill up our son’s bracket last year.

Loudoun Premiere Cup and now Revolution Cup were both higher quality out in that area. However both of those are now starting to suffer given their timing, before school starts and over Labor Day weekend, when clubs can’t always get full rosters as people are squeezing in last minute vacations before summer ends.

Loudoun's tournament is going well- fields are nice, refs are good and it is nice to have the team playing before the league games start.

Loudoun soccer Park is garbage turf. I always hate when games get scheduled there. The other grass fields, though, I do like those. This weekend being stuck on their crappy turf was a nightmare.

Bolen park and Hanson park are both top notch grass field complexes and were WAY better than playing at LSP. The new turf at Bolen by the DC United facility was awesome too. Loudoun has great fields, they just need new turf desperately at their main complex.

This tournament was weak. SYC 2010 NAL team which is the third team was boosting on IG about how they won. One of the player posted "We won top bracket of the Loudoun Premier Cup and didn't lose a single game". True they didn't lose a single game. They played 2 games and both ended in a 1-1 tie

Only 2nd-3rd teams and below played this weekend. The top older teams are waiting for Copa Rayados next weekend or the ECNL NJ showcase in some cases
