Everyone has big interest in internships these days.
Coop program is just an additional service making it little easier.

Coop is different from internships. Coops do not lend well to school spirit. Other schools have more spirit. It’s silly to press on this issue.

I think it has more school spirit than Tufts and also BU which has 1/4 international students which do not lend well to school spirit.

Not really when coop students are always looking for their next coop or away on their coop. Or living at the Westin.

Sure Northeastern's 'school spirit' can't be compared to schools like ND, but better thing about Northeastern is that you get little bit of everything in a diverse environment at one of the best locations.

This is the whitest group of men I've seen in a Looooong Time.

Imagine Tufts and BC

NP. Among these schools, the differences are primarily in numbers of Asians and internationals. Fall 2022 from IPEDS:

Northeastern: 19% Asian, 5% black, 11% Hispanic, 42% white, 14% international
BU: 19% Asian, 5% black, 10% Hispanic, 33% white, 23% international
BC: 11% Asian, 5% black, 11% Hispanic, 58% white, 9% international
Tufts: 10% Asian, 6% black, 10% Hispanic, 44% white, 12% international

23% international at BU
WTF 1 out of 4 students is an international student WTF

It seems you have feelings about international students?

You don't think it's excessive?

I don’t really know what it means.

Again most students are always looking for internships.
That's what students do - study hard, play hard, work hard.
They are not mutually exclusive things.

again internships are in the summer. coops are semesters long and take the students away from campus during the regular school year. and the Westin living is just a bonus.

Students go away for coop, study abroad, etc. during the regular school year.
That doesn't affect school spirit much.

Every single student at NEU goes away from campus for multiple semesters. That’s different from a summer internship or semester abroad. Isn’t it supposed to be? What it doesn’t do is spur school spirit.

Seems like BU should have a lot of money since international students are guaranteed full pay.

My kid went away one semester for international coop.
If a kid can grab two good coops, that's a great thing.
The school is also very lively during the Summer.
It doesn't hurt school spirit.

+1
What makes the PP mad? I see it as positive.
It broadens diverse experiences and viewpoints in a globalized world.

i don't think bu, neu are worth it over other options in the north east

Agree

I think BC is perfectly fine if you are ok with a catholic school (do they still have crucifixes in every classroom? That is enough to create discomfort for some kids).

It ticks a lot of boxes and it has a nice alumni network in the Boston area but I don’t think its academics are actually better than BU’s (and definitely not better than Tufts’, although I know a bunch of kids who visited Tufts and didn’t like the vibe there either)

Agree.
These schools attracts different types of ppl.
For us, after excluding BC and Tufts, BU seems to be the most suitable option.

Agree. I love the NEU booster who speaks out of both sides of her mouth. We’re unique, we have coops!!!! Lots of jobs by the time they graduate!!! Oh but the student experience is exactly like it is at every other school, there’s no difference! everyone bonds in the exact same way that 2.5 continuous years on campus at BC does, before the one solitary study abroad semester spring of junior year. No totally, it’s the same. The students are never on campus with each other for a continuous year, but it’s exactly the same.

For those who don't have students at NEU, if you don't get it, you don't get it. You can cheer for the hockey team while on campus support them on coop, and cheer for them when back on campus.

Anonymous wrote:Will visit BC, BU, Tufts, NE in the fall for my DC. Most likely will be an Econ/Math major. trying to get a sense for each place before visiting. DC thinks they want a school with a lot of school spirit and a fun and social energy but with kids who also take academics seriously. Would love thoughts from parents with kids at one of these.
What AP credit do they have?
Anonymous
BU seems good - first semester they can take MA 230, MA 442, EC 221

And second semester - MA 581, MA 511, MA 569/570, EC 222

Then. 575, 578, EC 501, EC 502, and other math courses over the next two semesters

That schedule (or something similar) is what they would take if they're interested in an econ PhD

BC plays in the ACC so there are more school spirit events already laid out for the student body. Tailgating for football, especially when ND comes through, or Florida/Clemson are a big deal.

Now, they kind of suck at all sports except hockey, which is played in Hockey East, but they also have the Beanpot Tournament with BU, Harvard and NEU.
