What does this even mean?

It means that poster is a bigot and a troll. ignore.

I don't think the poster is intending to be a bigot, or is trolling. I think that if you are a devout Catholic, you may be paired with someone who doesn't share your value system. BC is still an overwhelmingly Catholic school and that there are definitely anti-Catholic bigots out there. So the poster is probably just putting out there to be watchful for dorm pairings. I don't think that is terribly unreasonable. At the same time, people don't have to share the same values, but as long as they are respectful and tolerant, who cares? College is about learning and gaining new experiences.

Any religious school is going to get this dynamic. BC, Notre Dame, Hillsdale, Baylor, BYU.

You don't spend a lot of time with Catholics, do you?

BC and Notre Dame are nothing like Hillsdale or BYU. It's an ill-informed comparison.

I think this poster is trying to equate all Catholics with self-flagellating papists nervously uttering the rosary whenever they ponder the ankle of St. Margaret as they reverently attend the pre-dawn Latin mass in the chapel in the grotto.

For this poster, Boston College is like a madrasa in Pakistan. You'll need to be wary of those BC kids. You might catch them with a rosary saying a prayer to St. Doug Flutie on a holy Saturday afternoon

The reality is that BC is Catholic. Many many students choose it because it is a Catholic school. No one is saying that they are crazy conservative fundamentalists. But the student body in general are likely baptized, have attended Mass at some point and will likely desire to continue the tradition with their offspring. So if that is not someone’s tradition it might feel weird. Doesn’t mean it won’t be right fit but kids should consider that.

lol. You’re clearly not Jewish. We have always lived in communities where a vast majority of people’s traditions are different than ours. And guess what? It doesn’t “feel weird.” In fact, it’s perfectly comfortable!

Other people’s religious backgrounds and traditions are nothing to feel “weird” about. Nor are their current religious practices. It’s borderline offensive for you to project onto others that level of fragility and discomfort onto others.

By the way, DC is very interested in BC. And again, we’re Jewish. Baptism, Bar Mitzvah, Mass, Shabbat, Confirmation (for teens of both religions, actually.) It’s all good.

We did a tour and the guide told us that she felt students were obsessed with putting others down academically. It was not DC’s choice, and he instead went to Harvard

Is this a joke? The students are kind and collaborative at Tufts.

I have never been on a college tour where the guide said something so blatantly negative about the school so I am pretty sceptical that happened.

Tufts wasn’t for my kid but I loved the tour and info session. Not sure why everyone on here needs to bash other schools? If not for your kid not big deal.

Very interesting article about Northeastern in the Boston Globe. Good (and long) read if you're interested in the school.

Fewer than 1% of students at BC are Jewish. There are considerably more Jewish students at BU and NEU.

I’m Jewish and learned a lot more about Christianity growing up than my Christian friends, but tbh one reason I wasn’t that interested in BC was the crucifixes in every classroom.

That was a very positive article about the school from the Boston Globe. One thing that struck me was the plan to make it from a commuter college to a world class university didn't come by chance, but was decades in the making It looks like they put a tremendous amount of thought into it, and it really wasn't just the us news' rankings, although in the beginning that was a big part of it. It's interesting that in they were going to ditch the co-ops because some co-ops back in the 1990's were "handing out towels in a gym" and now they have the largest and most influential companies and firms participating.

Does anyone know the general crime situation for the Boston colleges especially with rapes?

I've looked at the Clery reports, and something seems off. Boston College reported 25 rapes.

https://www.bc.edu/content/dam/bc1/sites/Campus-Safety/BCPD/Clery%202023%20Booklet.pdf

That seems pretty high. In comparis, Tufts only had 1.
https://tufts.app.box.com/v/annual-security-report

Northeastern had 11
https://nupd.northeastern.edu/wp-content/uploads/2023-Boston-ASR.pdf

Boston University had 9
https://www.bu.edu/police/files/2023/09/BUASR.pdf

I tried googling why BC with a smaller enrollment is a statistical outlier. If anyone has any insights into this, it would be much appreciated!
