What does this even mean?

It means that poster is a bigot and a troll. ignore.

I don't think the poster is intending to be a bigot, or is trolling. I think that if you are a devout Catholic, you may be paired with someone who doesn't share your value system. BC is still an overwhelmingly Catholic school and that there are definitely anti-Catholic bigots out there. So the poster is probably just putting out there to be watchful for dorm pairings. I don't think that is terribly unreasonable. At the same time, people don't have to share the same values, but as long as they are respectful and tolerant, who cares? College is about learning and gaining new experiences.

Any religious school is going to get this dynamic. BC, Notre Dame, Hillsdale, Baylor, BYU.

Yes, it’s git to be a shock to non-Catholic kids at BC when they wake up on November 13 & their Catholic roommate is slaughtering a raccoon & rubbing the blood all over their naked body in honor of it being St. Guido’s Day.

In 2020 census, 70% in the US identified as Christians.
Add other religions, more than 80% are religious.
What does it tell you?

Vast majority of students would feel uncomfortable at secular schools??

Wow I guess if that bothers you then you shouldn’t go to Notre Dame.

So, cliff notes are BC if you are a Catholic and care about that. BU/NEU/Tufts if you don't care.

Just stop. Do not put BC or ND in the same breath as H or BYU (I don't know Baylor). There is no comparison.

Why/ They are all religious schools. I'd also put Providence College, Villanova in there too.

If you don't know the vast religious/cultural differences among these colleges you really out to sit down and listen -- not make lists and draw conclusions.

yep

That's because everyone knows they fill 60-70% of their class with ED applicants--the fact that they do not publish their common data set is revealing in this regard.

This is blatantly not true. According to the Tufts admissions blog, they enroll the majority of their students through the regular decision process. You can read it here if you don't believe me. https://admissions.tufts.edu/blogs/inside-admissions/post/is-it-easier-to-get-in-ed-2/

It is blatantly true. Were you even at the tour? The admissions guy basically said ED is a demonstration of interest and Tufts take this very seriously AND they fill a "big chunk" of the incoming class with ED applicants. Tufts and Chicago follow the same business model of filling the majority of their class with ED applicants. You want to get in, apply ED.

A "big chunk" is different than 60%-70%. A majority are admitted through regular decision. A minority, which is less than a majority, are admitted through early decision. The last reported data in 2019, there were 719 early decision acceptances. Tufts enrolls around 1,750 freshmen every year.

Tufts and Chicago aren't the only colleges that fill a big part of their class with ED. Bates, Brown, Bucknell, Claremont McKenna, Colby, Columbia, Davidson, Duke, Emory, Hamilton, Hopkins, Lehigh, Middlebury, Penn, Vanderbilt, among others, fill more than half their class with ED admits.

Not sure what your beef against Tufts is.

Half of Tufts students come from non-public high schools. The vibe there might seem a bit elitist to some.

Is this a joke? The students are kind and collaborative at Tufts.

Definitely polar views. Anyone know the truth? Collaborative or cutthroat?

You don't spend a lot of time with Catholics, do you?

BC and Notre Dame are nothing like Hillsdale or BYU. It's an ill-informed comparison.

I think this poster is trying to equate all Catholics with self-flagellating papists nervously uttering the rosary whenever they ponder the ankle of St. Margaret as they reverently attend the pre-dawn Latin mass in the chapel in the grotto.

For this poster, Boston College is like a madrasa in Pakistan. You'll need to be wary of those BC kids. You might catch them with a rosary saying a prayer to St. Doug Flutie on a holy Saturday afternoon

The reality is that BC is Catholic. Many many students choose it because it is a Catholic school. No one is saying that they are crazy conservative fundamentalists. But the student body in general are likely baptized, have attended Mass at some point and will likely desire to continue the tradition with their offspring. So if that is not someone’s tradition it might feel weird. Doesn’t mean it won’t be right fit but kids should consider that.

I have never been on a college tour where the guide said something so blatantly negative about the school so I am pretty sceptical that happened.
