Trying to compare Boston Colleges for DC

Anonymous
Will visit BC, BU, Tufts, NE in the fall for my DC. Most likely will be an Econ/Math major. trying to get a sense for each place before visiting. DC thinks they want a school with a lot of school spirit and a fun and social energy but with kids who also take academics seriously. Would love thoughts from parents with kids at one of these.

What you've described is BC.

Recently visited Tufts and BC, was much more impressed with the BC campus.

BC and Tufts have similar suburban campuses with lawns and quads surrounded by academic buildings - what most people think about when they think about a college. BU is extremely integrated into Boston. There is no real campus- it is completely urban with major thoroughfares cutting through it. NE splits the difference. I don't think someone who wants the BC experience would be happy at BU and vice versa.

My kids liked NE the most because of this.

DD has friends at Tufts. Anecdotally, it's not a spirited and socially energetic place. I agree with the other posters the BC may best fit the bill.

Agree. I went to BC and my then boyfriend went to Tufts. We mostly hung out at BC because of the spirit and social energy. I did not enjoy the times we spend at Tufts. Sometimes I think he dated me just because he liked being at BC.

Northeastern and BC fit for what you described.
But then I would say it depends on other factors. Northeastern is far more diverse in all ways. BC is more homogenous.

They're not very similar in style. Tufts is 70s brick buildings and concrete brutalism. BC has much more of a traditional "collegiate gothic" look.

They are similar in that they are compact and suburban as opposed BU and NE

Agree with all of the posters who said you just described BC.

I have heard from a few people that the coop system means Northeastern doesn’t have quite the same traditional school spirit or energy as schools with a more traditional schedule.

Wow. You almost don’t have to visit: BC is ED1.

The other schools don’t fit. Visit Holy Cross instead — very good for Econ and Math, not far from Boston, and fits your description nicely. That’s your ED2. You’re welcome.
