What are you doing for July 4th? What do you WISH you were doing for it?

Isn't there going to be a severe thunderstorm on the 4th? We already watched the fireworks on Saturday, so probably nothing.

I’m not doing anything. Will probably take a late-night walk around the neighborhood with my kids, because people go nuts with fireworks and it’s always a fun walk. Craving a BLT pizza, so I think we will do that. That’s it.

I live in a VERY tiny one bedroom with no air conditioning, two sofa seats or otherwise people are sitting on my bed, and am poor. I do not throw events.

You can invite friends to meet in the park for a picnic potluck. Do you think poor people never have fun?

You just had to throw in the “poor people” bit, didn’t you?

OP said she was poor. As an excuse for not inviting friends anywhere…

Going to Long Island and very happy to be here! So far the weather is perfect.

What a smug, unhelpful response. First off, not everyone is married and has kids. Second, even if you do, most people need some outside social interaction.
+1 Furthermore, at some point one of the spouses dies.

I'm staying home and watching movies with DD. Sleeping in and hanging out. I hate cookouts and making small talk.

Oh, that’s what I’m actually doing. What I’d like to do is lay in a freshly made bed alone all day, eat little snacks, read, watch tv, and look at fireworks out the window.
+1

No, it's why I never invite friends to my apartment. Partially because I can't afford to host and partially because I only have a two-person sofa and my bed for people to sit on.

We are doing nothing for it.

I wish I were one of these social people, throwing or going to a barbecue, with lots of old friends. Barbecue chicken, potato salad, watermelon.

But I'm not. I don't have the energy. It'll just be a day off where we probably stay home. Try to get the lawn mowed.

The families in the neighborhood who have dogs do not appreciate this.

Taking the train to the beach sounds dreamy. Have fun, OP!

What train goes to the beach? In real life from the dmv?

I'm not in the DMV. Where I live it'll be about an hour there and an hour back. So I can only stay at the beach about an hour, because bathroom!

Wear a swimsuit and pee in the ocean! Problem solved! Have a great Thursday, OP!!

Um, I'm not going into the water. Or wearing a swimsuit. (And I don't believe in peeing in the water.) I'm just going to sit on a bench a few steps up from the sand, and eat blueberries and read my book and hope dogs taking their owners for a walk will stop to say hi to me and occasionally look out at the water.

No wonder you don’t have any friends. You sound boring and rigid as hell.

Pretty sure you don't have any friends. You sound like you are lacking in social skills. DP

Enough about the dogs! How were the dogs over the past 100 years able to deal with it, and the spoiled ones of today are so triggered?

Read a good book about people throwing a barbecue and all the rest--thats the only fun I have energy for,,, but on the plus side since my 40s I could care less if i got invited to a potluck, if anything dont have the energy nor health to go...I dont miss small talk..true friendships yes but dont see much of that around here
