What are you doing for July 4th? What do you WISH you were doing for it?

I’m not doing anything. Will probably take a late-night walk around the neighborhood with my kids, because people go nuts with fireworks and it’s always a fun walk. Craving a BLT pizza, so I think we will do that. That’s it.

I live in a VERY tiny one bedroom with no air conditioning, two sofa seats or otherwise people are sitting on my bed, and am poor. I do not throw events.

Sounds like you just need to get creative- get some snacks and invite a few friends for a picnic at a nice shady outdoor public space, invite friends to go to town parade or walk to get ice cream. Having a small house and no money doesn’t prevent you from socializing. The more you put in work to plan something and then invite people to things, the more you’ll get invited when they put in the planning work.

Was he packing?

Hanging out at the pool then throwing a bbq. I wish we were attending a bbq but my neurodivergent kiddo does better at our own house so even though it’s a ton of work it’s ultimately easier for the family.

Well today, it feels like 109 degrees with the heat index.

So, if you have air conditioning, maybe refrain from telling someone less fortunate than you that “they just need to be creative.”

I'm not married. I don't have kids.

So many posters live in a bubble, and project their reality onto others!

NP. To be fair, this website is called “DC Urban Moms and Dads” so don’t be surprised if people assume you’re a parent in the DC area.

But as has been stated NUMEROUS times, there are fora that interest the wider universe: such as health, cooking, travel, exercise, fashion. etc etc

ALSO, many parents are not married. Some were never married. In fact, 40% of US births on 2016 were to unmarried people.

So, as stated earlier, stop thinking everyone has your life/experience. Be more inclusive. Problem solved.

The world is not inclusive. Stop expecting it. Just communicate you’re not married/no kids and that gives people information so they can give you a better response.

We make the world , and we can actively try to improve it.

You are very much part of the problem.

We went to the movies then hung out at home with the pets. I would like to have gone to the movies then hung out at home with the pets.

July 4th is not a day for amateurs.

I used to like to watch fireworks but because my dogs hate them and are terrified, I will be at home comforting my dogs. We'll enjoy the beautiful day, eat some watermelon, and hide later.

This! Next to our scared pup watching fireworks on the mall! This year was Alfonso Ribeiro (sp?).

You are basically saying, I walk around the world assuming everyone has my life experience . If they don’t, it is on them to inform me of that.

It is extremely self-centered.

Versus everyone making a small effort to use inclusive, rather than exclusive, language.

You can evolve or double down. But some of us have chosen to evolve.
