Women are conditioned to seek approval from men. I’ve watched it work many times over the years, usually on women and girls who are insecure and lack self confidence.

Why would a man want someone insecure who lacks confidence? How is this at all advantageous to the man?

Because these people are easy to manipulate.

See the above. They can't get a woman unless she's insecure and easily manipulated, so that's what they do.

What I'm hearing is that this behavior clearly indicates a low-value partner. Anyone decent wouldn't need to play stupid games like this, and the "prize" of an insecure partner (however temporary) seems equally stupid.

File under "known red flags".

True. However, You are conflating looking for a partner and looking for sex.

Bro, insecure women are the #1 candidates for catching feelings and acting crazy. Pro tip: don't stick your dick in crazy. This behavior is a liability all around

Is negging the same as "shook"? or "triggered"?

Anonymous wrote:Negging isn't new. I remember it being around when I was in college and I'm 38. It's a low grade insult meant to take a woman down a peg so she's feeling insecure and more welcome to the guy hitting on her. The purpose is to do it in a way that she doesn't realize it's insulting. The one I will always remember is a guy telling my friend "wow. I really like you're dress. You're a little over dressed for this place but you look great". It's a subtle little dig that she didn't even pick up on. I wish I could say it didn't work. But looking back it worked on us all the time. Maybe the definition has changed in the last 15+ years.

Is that really negging? To me that's a compliment and an opening to leave a crappy place and go dancing or somewhere that fit the outfit. I wouldn't feel insecure about it at all.

You might be insensitive to tone. Someone could say it in a way that implies you made an error, or they could use a tone that was consistent with the way you are interpreting it.

People who are calling it a negative tactic haven't specified for you that you should assume a negative tone. Understanding tone and implication is a helpful skill.

Red Pill/ internet incel men are taught to do this to identify if a woman is easy to manipulate/susceptible to abuse. You give the woman a put-down disguised as a joke, and it's supposed to make the woman want to prove herself to be a worthy partner to him by making her insecure. The demands slowly escalate from there, until the woman is completely submissive and compliant to his demands. This is also known as emotional abuse.

This is a silly and old timey term, why do people have to go to the depths of the worst of humanity so quickly

Where I come from, this is called disaster thinking. Plus, I don’t think y’all are actually dating just arm-chair opining.
