And you know how that's going to go. At a certain point, it's much easier to avoid alcohol all together rather than try to control it. The mental struggle isn't worth it. And you feel better all around when you don't have to deal with it - both the brain side and the body side. It's much easier to have no drinks at all rather than try to limit things to vacations and special occasions when you have a predilection for drinking. People are wired differently. Is what it is. |
This is a strange take. Most people drink at night, if they drink. Plenty of time to hike or bike during the day, then have a delicious cocktail or glass of wine in the evening. |
I took away quite a different message from that article—that drinking really doesn’t affect longevity that much. |
This is just your opinion. Not fact. |
I’d love to have a glass of red wine or a bit of whiskey every night since I really like the flavor. But I feel guilty and settle for 2-4 nights a week to have 1 drink - occasionally I’ll splurge and have 2. Social occassions like dinner parties I’ll really cut loose and have 3.
I know I know, you guys think I should check myself into an inpatient substance abuse program. |
OK, thanks? I guess. |
One daily. Two on Saturday.
Still have a fatty liver. 58 year old female. |
Good for you, PP! Any tips to cut back? I want to make a change and so does DH. |
Yes, just because your opportunities for drinking decline. You're not going to bars or as many parties. It's a lie to say there aren't social engagements, but you don't have as many. Also, frankly, it's just not very much fun to parent drunk/hungover. |
Maybe one drink a month. Hate wine and beer, so it's gotta be fruity in a fun glass in a very social setting. |
If I've been hiking, I want water. If I'm going hiking tomorrow, I don't want anything resembling a hangover. When you're heading up a mountain there isn't a worse feeling than indigestion, a headache, etc. I love certain cocktails, but not more than alot of other things I might be doing on a Saturday night. I just can't be bothered to make one. I've had great wine, but it just feels like more trouble than its worth to track down a good one and the bottle inevitably sits around for ages. |
Yikes. I'm not a big drinker, but I'm also not prone to bursts of judgmental anger. You might want to ride your bike and take a deep breath. |
How do you type when your hands are shaking so much? Don't you spill your vodka? |
try those NA beers. those Athletic ones are actually REALLY good—in fact, if you drink for the flavor, they will do the trick. I'm the OP, and I'd say just tweak your schedule so drinking just isn't convenient. |
That's what mean about the false dichotomy. Nobody hear has even mentioned spending their "summer days being drunk" I am also Health AF, but enjoy a glass of red wine at night. Its crazy to me how people think in such absolutes. |
