How much do you drink?

We usually unwind with a glass of wine at the end of the day. And on the weekends, that might be 2-3 glasses.

I do think its a bit silly though when I see these posts where the teetotalers seem to think anyone who drinks is running around drunk all the time or sleeping off a hangover.

We also workout, go for bike rides, take hikes, on the weekends. And then, we open a bottle of red and sit on the deck in the evening.

The thinly veiled judgement and superiority is not a good look, guys

Maybe not, but it sure beats alcoholism.

I don’t drink alcohol at all. I am in my mid 50s and I definitely have seen a few friends go from social drinkers to drunks. It is sad to watch.

You seem kinda defensive.

6-10 drinks is more than I want, but doesnt' sound excessive.

Not really being defensive when literally the very next post said that teetotalling "beats alcoholism". Which is the epitomy of a false dichotomy.

I'm just always so confused by those that abstain that don't understand there is a HUGE middle ground where people drink responsibly

I know someone who has 5-6 per night and on a weekend night will drink 7-8 beers, a bottle of wine and maybe a few shots to cap it off, and they still run 6 miles everyday. It's called high-functioning alcoholism.

I don't.

Up until January 2024 I consistently drank the equivalent of five shots of bourbon every day, more on the weekends. I'm a 40yo female.

I did a Dry January and it stuck for five months. More recently, I have had a few drinks at social events/vacation.

I'm the OP and I used to drink both heavily and moderately and now almost never, so I understand very much about the different levels of drinking, I'm just curious if other people's find their level evolving. Everyone knows people who drink more and more and I was wondering if there was anyone else drinking less and less, for no particular reason.

That said, I'm very pleased with drinking less. But you sound very pleased drinking daily. So, I guess we're even.

Both DH and I stopped drinking regularly in our late 20s. Now in late 30s it’s almost never— maybe a few times a year for both of us, and then just 1-2 drinks. I have some health issues that make me react really poorly to alcohol, and DH just doesn’t find it appealing anymore.

I need to stop or at least cut back. Even drinking in moderation is apparently terrible for your health.

yes, that's what i meant by saying there's no good that comes of it.

Obviously soda and juice isn't much better, but given the downsides, it seems hard to justify drinking much or any alcohol.

I’m in my mid 50s and used to drink pretty regularly a few glasses of wine per week. But I’ve gradually reduced it to practically nothing. I already have trouble sleeping and it makes it worse. But the main reason is that I have trouble enjoying it. As I’m drinking, I can’t stop thinking about how bad it is for my health and that I’m increasing my risk of cancer, etc. even with one drink. It takes the fun out of it!

oh man, the research on alcohol and cancer is super scary and under-reported... but also true about sugar...

6-10 drinks a week, every week or most weeks, is absolutely excessive. If you have drinks that equal to or more than the # of days in a week, that's insane to me.

6-10 drinks a week when you're on vacation? That's different ok, but isn't your normal weekly habit.

3-5 drinks 3x a week

Nothing. The empty calories aren't worth it.
