| Wash U lacks social prestige. |
| I think it’s because of the location. No one wants to be in Missouri these days and STL has never been a hot destination. It’s better known as the murder capital of the US. And before anyone corrects me that washu is in Clayton. Thanks I know that. I’ve spent a lot of time in STL and Clayton. WashU is a nice little bubble just outside of a really troubled and depressed city. |
Wash. U. is one of the top schools that gives out merit aid. It definitely steals some students from Harvard and Yale that way. |
| Wash. U definetly top 5 in terms of quality of life for its students in the T20s. For kid who are interested in medicine, would recommend sending them. Wash. U is a better place to be than Hopkins for sure. Have work at JHH-- it's really not a favorable place to spend your 4 years undergrad studying to be a MD. |
Wash U is incredibly expensive. Unless the merit aid is massive, it can’t help that much. |
Average cost after aid $27,595 |
Most of that aid is for those with financial need. |
So it's like Bethesda? |
So you have never been to STL… DP |
This. Plus, the WashU grads I know are all a little off in various ways. |
Sure I have. And Baltimore, Detroit, Gary (my personal fave), Oakland, etc. Astonishingly, people happily attend college in/near all of them. Except Gary. |
The big scholarships cover full tuition. |
Wash. U. merit-aid-type scholarships: https://admissions.wustl.edu/cost-aid/scholarships Overall, the aid calculator estimates for my son, who as in the donut hole, were a lot worse than at Princeton but about the same as at Harvard. |
How exactly? |
Seriously. More off than a kid from a tippy top 3 private school in DC? Ha. |
