Democrat group advocating to replace Biden?

I don't to accept it but Joe has to go.

At the very least, people in high places, and probably in low ones as well, need to have thought through the possibilities. Lots of Democrats, and this comes up here all the time, rationalize shutting down all thought and discussion by claiming to have a grasp of possibilities. It’s laughably bad!

Folks, if Trump drops dead or somehow winds up in jail, Republicans can nominate Haley. And I think she would soundly defeat Biden. I think Dems are screwed if Haley is the nominee.

I feel like they should at least have someone waiting in the wings for that scenario. It's not entirely implausible.

As a democrat, I don’t fear Haley as president. I fear a second Trump term. If Trump drops dead and Haley is the nominee, the race would be closer, and if Haley won, it wouldn’t be catastrophic.

That said I don’t think Haley would win a general election. Voters continue to reject republicans for overturning Roe v wade and for the damage Trump has done to the party.

I do think Dems need a better back up plan for Biden than Kamala Harris though.

In the latest polls, Haley beats Biden by 19 points. It would be a landslide.

But Haley is not going to be the nominee. It will be Trump vs Biden.

And if you include third parties - Kennedy etc - Trump wins very easily. Presently, roughly 15-20 percent of Americans are intending to vote third party. And that hurts Biden a lot more.

It's his age. That's the main thing. Really stupid idea for Democrats to roll with a rapidly declining man who will be 86 (!) in a second term. And no one has any faith in Kamala Harris.

Why don’t you fault the GOP for choosing Trump again? Why do the Democrats have to clean up everything for you?

Exactly. Get rid of trump already.

Trump AND Biden both need to go. If you can't admit that, I don't know what to tell you.
DP

That is what elections are for. If you vote for trump over Biden, I don't know what to tell you.

Lots of anti maga groups and anti trump. Any anti Biden, from within Democratic Party?

Let’s not be like the republicans who feared criticizing trump. Where’s the honest reflection and pivoting away from someone not fit for office.

The Presidency is so much bigger than a single person. The entire Biden Administration is filled with serious, competent people. People keep trying to make his gaffes a thing but really, it’s not. There was thread last month about the magical mythical Dem, no one could come up with a name. Polling shows the closest contender is Michelle Obama. That shows how unserious this effort is.

Democrats continue to outperform despite what polls want us to believe. Biden not polling great is irrelevant. Don’t compare him to the Almighty, compare him to the alternative.

And you lost in 2016 with this philosophy.

Biden’s an incumbent. And a male, which you conveniently omit. Not comparable situations.

It's not simply about gender. HRC inspired a special kind of hatred from the right that other women (Whitmer, for example) wouldn't be subject to.

Kamala Harris would like a word. Critics ALWAYS find something wrong. Misogyny is rampant in the US. Look at the exploding heads over the Barbie movie, Beyoncé, or Taylor Swift’s success.

Kamala’s a hack. She’s actually an example of someone who only is where she is *because* she’s a woman, whereas HRC achieved *despite* being a woman (being First Lady certainly helped though.) I do like Gretchen whitmer, but not sure about her from a presidential standpoint. HRC was a unicorn and part of that was decades of experience and putting in the hard work- she strikes me as probably the hardest working of any recent Democratic candidate or nominee.

This dislike of Harris strike me as very similar as the feelings of the anti-HRC crowd. Frankly, I think HRC lost bc she did not lean into the progressive base that Sanders had ignited and her choice of a southern white man as VP cemented her centrist position. If she has selected Cory Booker I think history would have been different.

As for Biden, he’s not going anywhere. I’m completely turned off by his support for Israel’s outsized response in Gaza. But if the other option is Trump I will hold my nose and do it.

Please link the poll showing Michelle as Joe’s closest contender.

It's obviously never occurred to some of you that if Biden didn't support Israel, he'd be pissing off other Democrats. Hamas declared war on Israel with the terror attacks What was Israel supposed to do? Bomb a few buildings and then wait for the next terror attack?

And Biden has had a restraining effect on the Israeli response in Gaza, which is probably coming to an end (the destruction phase, at least) pretty soon. It could have been much harsher. The real challenge is what happens next. All in all, I score Biden very well on how an American president should have handled the Gazan situation.

Yup, keep funding both sides. Oldest trick in the book!

Please see the myraid threads about this. There are not other "generic" or actual democrats who poll to beat Trump. Biden is the only one. If Trump isn't the nominee, then all bets are off, but as long as Trump is the nominee, Biden will be as well.

This is such a terrible argument. Polling is always about name recognition, and the President will always have greater name recognition than an unannounced primary challenger. However, IF Biden were to step aside, there would quickly be a high-profile Democratic challenger, and they would instantly poll at or above Biden's level. My guess is that they would then start to climb, because so many people want a non-Trump candidate who isn't geriatric.

The other thing that apparently hasn't occurred to most folks here is that plenty of this agitation against President Biden has been planted on social media by bad actors trying to get the US to tear itself apart. Most likely Russia, China, and Iran. Who would benefit most from Trump's return to power and American dysfunction?

You know what also about name recognition besides polling? Voting.

Who? Name them.

Because none of Newsome, Harris, Whitmer, Bashear or anyone else comes close.

Newsom, who is floated in some circles, would be a disaster.

Two years ago, California had a budget surplus of $97.5 Billion. Today, they are looking at a budget deficit of $73 Billion.
He has somehow managed to make over $170 Billion disappear.
And, this is just the budget mismanagement. He has done so much more damage to CA.

So long as KJP remains in her office, I am content the government is being run by competent deep thinkers.

How about AOC?

She is a, what, third term congressperson with very little congressional leadership but a lot of TV time. She has basically ZERO qualification to be a serious candidate for the presidency. And I am a big AOC fan.
