Mary Lou Retton has no health insurance

It's giving Republican Trumper Anti-Vaccine vibes for me.

Very disappointing because she was such a big part of my childhood. She's literally the reason why I started gymnastics as a kid and did it through college.

She lives in a mansion and her net worth is in the millions.

I didn’t like the quote “to respect her privacy we are not providing details. Except, that she is uninsured and needs help with bills”. Like, ok. Zero details except you want cash.

Agree it’s likely covid and her family is trying to not say that

I have to agree. I thought that line was tasteless at best.

This is the perfect lesson in why you need health insurance. I hope her daughters understand this now.

People already donated $200,000. Many times over the goal amount.

Then work at Starbucks.

I lost my job and applied to starbucks and several grocery and retail stores and never heard back. the lack of staff you see at stores isnt because people aren't applying, it's because people arent hiring.

Yeah, I applied at Starbucks and waitressing and hostessing jobs and of course had no experience doing any of those things. I worked retail as a teenager, but that experience was two decades earlier - literally the places I worked 14-21 no longer exist. Nobody called me back.

Maybe instead of “praying” she should have supported better social supports.

Did she drink too many pool chemicals?

Uh, no. I'm the prior poster with Obamacare. In my state, a single person earning $46,000 per year or more gets no discount on Obamacare insurance. I pay the quoted rate on the website with no discount. I get the cheapest bronze plan.

In my state if you earn less than $46,000 per year then the Obamacare costs are discounted, i.e. you pay less.

My insurance was much more affordable before Obamacare became the law and outlawed individual policies as I paid $250 per month from Blue Cross with a smaller deductible.

Obama care did not outlaw individual policies. It did, however, outlaw policies that did not cover a list of services that were considered essential for any policy.

I’d be interested in knowing what the “any kind of income” poster means by that, and who that price quote is for. I doubt that a young adult would be paying $1400 a month for an individual policy. What’s interesting is that “any kind of income “ could mean, well, almost anything, and some of these factors vary by state.

Yep. Check your state government's track record on ACA and Medicaid expansion.

The GoFundMe was a poor choice by her young adult child who has proven to have poor judgment in the past.

How so? What does this mean? What poor judgment in the past?

McKenna bashing gay marriage was in poor taste.

She is a Republican. Health insurance is not one of her priorities.

If she truly has no insurance and is in the ICU...200K is nothing. I am a bit skeptical.
