St Albans forfeits football game today- why?

While the idea of the police being involved is problematic, it is worth noting that D.C. has pretty strict mandated reporting laws for school officials. There is a whole list of reasons a school MUST contact the police. We don't know what it is here but those speculating it is this or that should really calm down for a bit.

Or, “some kid” could read this and think, by gosh I’d better behave myself and not do dumb things because, in the world of social media, my actions will be discussed all over town.

THIS- Not looking for details but have kids at similar high school in the area. Important to know what things could happen, use as a learning experience for kids. Not looking for lots of details or any gossip, just general nature. It will eventually come out, and frankly general information should. Schools, families, and kids need one another.

You don’t use other kids as your personal public learning tool. Not an STA parent fyi but have kids at another school that is constantly inaccurately gossiped on DCUM. Just focus on teaching your son not to break rules and your school has a rule book follow that as a lesson.

Disagree. If those involved are NOT minors- which, as another PP pointed out is at least a possibility- then there should be no protection of their names or privacy.

Irresponsible how? A meeting was called, little details were given, police are involved. It’s irresponsible to try to keep bad behavior under wraps.

Allegations involving minors and the police need to be discussed publicly? That is not how the police approach these things.

We’re not the police. We’re concerned community members, many of whom are paying a large amount of money to educate children at this school, or in other schools that interact with STA. Sorry but this is not a private matter that can be quietly swept under the rug.

And no one is naming minors.

You are not an STA parent. The STA parents have been told what they can be told. The details DO involve minors. In fact, even if there were convictions (which remains to be seen) all aspects would remain sealed. Is that “sweeping things under the rug?” No, it’s the law. You are just posting malicious crap for the fun of it which is sick.

Well remember Damascus High School? The details were released but not the names.

I will ask one more time that posters not post rumors. I will add to that that posters please not speculate. If/when the school or authorities choose to release more information, I am confident that it will be posted here. Until that time, your patience will be required.

As a prospective family I would like to know generally (without identifying specifics) what is going on and how the school is responding. Hopefully additional reliable information can be shared at some point.

I always think it’s so cute when people couch their curiosity and desire to gossip in terms of community well being.

Hard to cover up a dumpster fire isn’t it?

For the "we need to know ASAP how the school is responding" crowd, ask Duke University how rushing to judgment about their lacrosse players and coach, without a full accounting of facts that had been appropriately vetted, including making public statements about the same, worked out for them (hint: not well). You could also ask their liability insurance carriers, who paid out tens of millions of dollars in damages to the key individuals at issue.

You can also ask USA Gymnastics and Michigan State how the slow walk coverup worked for them.

Hmm Landin last year-pages of threads going after boys and the school wrote an inflammatory public statement and the whole thing was not what was initially reported. Horrible for those kids.

Agreed. We are also planning to apply to STA and our son plays football, so I’d like to know what happened. I don’t need details about the students, but I’d like the gist of the actual events. However, I’d definitely prefer to have that from a reliable source and not DCUM rumors. Happy to wait until more official info is released.

This is an incident involving STA students (not like the situation with the Duke lacrosse team). It's much more likely to get swept under the rug.
