As a prospective family I would like to know generally (without identifying specifics) what is going on and how the school is responding. Hopefully additional reliable information can be shared at some point.

Just stop.

Agreed. We are also planning to apply to STA and our son plays football, so I’d like to know what happened. I don’t need details about the students, but I’d like the gist of the actual events. However, I’d definitely prefer to have that from a reliable source and not DCUM rumors. Happy to wait until more official info is released.

This is an incident involving STA students (not like the situation with the Duke lacrosse team). It's much more likely to get swept under the rug.

The Duke kids were innocent and took years to get their lives back. Have no idea on this gossip but if a kid did something wrong the discipline of between the school and the kid and that is that. All schools are almost over the top on punishments today so no one is getting away if that is a concern. The school should never bow to pressure of people who sit and hope for something bad.

The Damascus SA hazing was by students - there are simply some safety issues that cannot be kept between the kid(s) and the school.

Of course. It depends whether or not what occurred rises to the level of criminal charges. We have no idea at this point and shouldn’t speculate.

Swept under the rug. Is that why the Headmaster had a zoom meeting with every parent, so he could sweep it under the rug?

Please...

More like damage control.

He was being accountable to the people who needed to be informed. Anything else is gossip.

Believe the spin if you wish. The community extends much further than STA.

Yes but if there is an active investigation he probably is not legally allowed to discuss details as it may hinder the investigation. Surely you must know this. Everyone wants to know what may or may not have happened but we will have to be patient and wait for the investigation to be completed.

Or this is gossip there is that too.

Well, now that you all have alerted the media, the story will be out soon. Watch the Post.

You could also ask their liability insurance carriers, who paid out tens of millions of dollars in damages to the key individuals at issue.

Very good reminder.

I hope it is not as terrible as folks here seem to hope it might be.

What happened may never be known.(god willing) Persons involved will be discernible by the denials. Cancellation of a team event casts a shadow over the entire team and all members. Parents will have an understandable desire to explain to friends, colleagues, and eventually admissions officers that their child is not involved. Returning to Duke lacrosse. If your son played lacrosse at Duke and skipped the infamous party, you might find a way to work into conversations that he was home that weekend or anywhere but at that party.

If my kid was on the team and not involved I would be looking to transfer to another school and would have already started sending emails/making calls.

Transfer out of Duke? Wouldn’t your kid be old enough to make those calls and decisions themselves? Or STA? If STA, do you really think you would be pulling your kid out without even knowing the facts?? Maybe it’s not that bad. Maybe these are just really bad rumors and someone needs to get to the bottom. I wouldn’t be so hasty. Also, a few bad apples do not mean everyone and everything about an institution is bad. If, in fact, there was some bad behavior on the part of a student or students or even administrators- hopefully the school deals with those individuals once they have the facts. All schools and institutions have their scandals. Non have been exempt. From the most prestigious all the way down …… but when it’s a prestigious institution there seems to be a rush to want it to be brought down.
