Irresponsible how? A meeting was called, little details were given, police are involved. It’s irresponsible to try to keep bad behavior under wraps.

+1.

Were all parents involved in the meeting/ email or just football parents?

All parents. They were given ~2 hr lead time for the zoom.

Given that that is hundreds of people in the DC area I don’t see how this can - or should- remain a private matter.

Can someone summarize what they were told? Was it just that todays game is being forfeited with no explanation?

Assuming that what PP’s have disclosed is true, that students are involved and that police are involved, I don’t see how that’s anyone’s business outside of the school community or even those people involved. It doesn’t affect the community. Don’t get me wrong, I want to know the details, but it’s not really anyone’s business and I think the PP who shared details (again assuming they are true) should really keep this to themselves.

Allegations involving minors and the police need to be discussed publicly? That is not how the police approach these things.

We’re not the police. We’re concerned community members, many of whom are paying a large amount of money to educate children at this school, or in other schools that interact with STA. Sorry but this is not a private matter that can be quietly swept under the rug.

And no one is naming minors.

You are not an STA parent. The STA parents have been told what they can be told. The details DO involve minors. In fact, even if there were convictions (which remains to be seen) all aspects would remain sealed. Is that “sweeping things under the rug?” No, it’s the law. You are just posting malicious crap for the fun of it which is sick.

Unless you are in the community it is really none of your business.

Of course that is your response. But I’m sorry; I did not get the memo that it is my responsibility to protect the image of St Albans.

It is the business of every moral person, especially those of us who have kids and live in this area.

But nice try to sweep it under the rug. This is how criminals, pedophiles and others get away with their crimes. Because people like you care more about the school’s name and image than the kids who are students there.

I don’t think it is your business unless you have a student at the school. I just don’t. I think you are being nosy.

People are annoyed at the secrecy because it reeks of a double standard.
Wasn’t there some incident last year at St. Albans where Jackson Reed students behaved badly? Their behavior was inexcusable for sure and there was a plethora of parents on here eviscerating the school (Jackson Reed). All fine but when something bad happens at a private school, parents rush to cover it up and insist it is no one’s business.

Parents are not covering anything up; we don't know what happened. There's nothing to share.

Don’t you think it’s your responsibility to push the school to provide full details and accountability?

Why do you think this is in the schools hands?

Neat. People are going to discuss it and you can’t stop them. Cope.

Your opinion is noted and given the level of consideration it deserves.

I think what happened should be disclosed, while still protecting the privacy of minors. It’s important for all our kids to understand what kind of behavior is and is not tolerated and what the consequences of their decisions are.

Agreed. This is the saddest thread I ever read on this often insane private/independent schools forum on DCUM.

Not a STA parent and sure yes curious but kudos to this school’s parents for not gossiping. Some kid could read this and panic thinking if they did something dumb they are ruined. I am also sure there are jealous people
that their kid didn’t get in STA that they are happy to start gossip.

Or, “some kid” could read this and think, by gosh I’d better behave myself and not do dumb things because, in the world of social media, my actions will be discussed all over town.

THIS- Not looking for details but have kids at similar high school in the area. Important to know what things could happen, use as a learning experience for kids. Not looking for lots of details or any gossip, just general nature. It will eventually come out, and frankly general information should. Schools, families, and kids need one another.

You don’t use other kids as your personal public learning tool. Not an STA parent fyi but have kids at another school that is constantly inaccurately gossiped on DCUM. Just focus on teaching your son not to break rules and your school has a rule book follow that as a lesson.

The fact that police are involved scares me. I have a daughter at another private who likes to hang out with St. Albans boys. She hasn’t told me anything yet, but I am discouraging that friendship. Time to find a new group of guy friends.

This is laughable.

Avoiding a toxic culture would be reasonable.

I actually think in this specific case, it is very important that applicants know what happened and for the broader community as well. Of course protecting the identity of individuals when appropriate.
