Should I divorce my kid? Refuse to pay for her college?

Why are you equating parenting to marriage? They are not the same.

My friend's daughter was like this through high school.

Then she went to college and did a hard left turn.

That is why conservatives fear education.

She volunteers regularly now in Democrat campaigns.

I’m happy for her. We’ll see how that serves her

Well since she wants control over her own body and healthcare, it will
"serve" her well.

Once she becomes a mom and realizes who is destroying quality education and who's putting her kids' lives at risk, she will most likely evolve and leave the leftie loonies.

Happens all the time.

Oh yeah. The Right is SO interested in education! That is why they are killing majors in college left and right. And no Shakespeare any more in some Florida school districts, and school libraries emptied.

Watching the news isn’t really a hobby but it can really mess people up— it’s like an addiction. I am a recovering news addixt and so are my parents. Get him away from the news and social media for a while. Tell him he has to do that or you will file for divorce. I think it will help.

Watching news isn't the problem.
Watching "news" is.

I'm the OP. My daughter (16) says people shouldn't be having sex unless they're ready to have a baby. That's how a woman can have control over her body. (*These are her views, not her parent's.)

She can also have control by being allowed to have sex and use protection or worse cane, Plan B.

The right has been dismantling, defunding and belittling public education for decades.
The right has no problem with drugs and guns in our schools.

But sure, it is the leftie loonies.

She is allowed. Not all 16 year olds are in a rush to lose their virginity.

That sounds perfectly reasonable!

For someone who is not having sex, yes. Easy to say.

My friend's daughter also said this at 16. At 18 when she got her first real boyfriend, she changed her tune completely.

Agreed, this is somewhat common. Once they have a boyfriend the hormones take over and ideas change.

Yep. It's a sharp kick in the teeth to realize you have to worry about pregnancy when you are sexually active. It brings the picture into sharp focus every 28 days or so.

If the education system is strong and people have good access to quality birth control, the worry about pregnancy is entirely manageable and is not a "kick in the teeth".

You need to explain rape to her before she gets to college. A whole new class of freshmen girls are getting drunk at frat parties and getting raped. She needs to learn not to judge those who become unintentionally pregnant. If she eventually marries will she only have sex when she intends to become pregnant? She’s shockingly naive for 16.

She really should read "Our Bodies, Ourselves."

I hope she realizes that girls and women don't always have a choice about when they will have sex.

This right here. She sounds like a naive 16 year old sheltered girl who doesn't realize a random guy could decide to rape her at any time, a boyfriend could date rape her, or she could get drugged. It doesn't just happen to "bad girls."

A married adult mom friend of mine was drugged at a business networking event (not DC) and raped. She left her drink alone because she trusted her fellow male business owners. Thankfully she was on birth control and did not acquire an STD.

Entirely sufficient reasons to sever ties, especially given the toxicity your children would be exposed to.

A spouse is not a child. If they can be confused with a child, then divorce is entirely understandable. It's not your job to raise a husband.
