The email says:

We believe our current FCPS policies are consistent with federal and state anti-discrimination laws. We also believe that supporting our students and working with parents and caregivers are not mutually exclusive; we already do both and will continue to do so.

It mentions parents in a reasonable way, IMO.

Parents have always been involved in schools--and schools always work with parents. This was a drummed up issue that supposedly set schools vs. parents. I don't know who falls for that fake crap, but obviously some people do. Are there differences on a few policies or practices? Sure. But that's when you go and work with your actual school. These efforts have confused so many people--which seems to have been the intent.

New Model: On bathroom use, the policy requires students to use school bathrooms and locker rooms matching the sex they were assigned at birth, unless federal law requires otherwise. In addition, overnight travel in hotels, locker rooms, and other intimate spaces for school activities must be based on biological sex, according to the guidance.

Reid: I want to be clear that FCPS remains committed to an inclusive and affirming learning environment for each and every student and staff member including those who are transgender or gender expansive. We believe our current FCPS policies are consistent with federal and state anti-discrimination laws.

This is what I'm worried about for my childrens' transgender friends. I firmly believe transgender youth should be allowed to use the bathroom and locker room of their choice. Transgender children/youth who have been using facilities aligned to their preferred gender should get to continue doing so.

I care less about the request for a name change being told to parents.

What about straight children's right and safety?
After a transgender teenager sexually assaulted a female student in a school bathroom while wearing a skirt, you can't say that normal parents' concern about gender expansive bathroom policy is a delusion.

I cannot believe people are still using this as an example. 1. Kid was not trans. 2. He didn't sneak into the bathroom as a girl to commit his assault. He sexually assaulted her after they agreed to meet there. 3. At a previous school, he sexually assaulted another girl in a classroom.

Please stop with this. It's a story about failure of the system to get a predator out of the schools, NOT a trans issue.

DP. It's all trans issues. We've decided to break down the barriers of sex, including segregated bathrooms. And the results have not been 100% positive.

These rules show that enough people think we went too far.

The civil rights movement wasn’t 100% positive at the start either. So should we have stopped that as well?

Apples and oranges.

Not the same.

Duran has twice excluded parents or caregivers or families from his response to the new model. He is either actively setting schools vs. parents or just communicating imprecisely.

Couple of years ago, people were saying there should be no argument, school board is obligated to adopt the policy because the state was dictating it. Does that still apply?

Nah, it’s pretty much the same. You want every marginalized person to shut up and go away, probably hiding behind a Bible and/or overinflated sense of self.

anyway, your kids are going to put you in a home and never come visit. Have a great summer

You’re vile. Not the same at all. Girls don’t want penises in their bathroom period. Regardless if the boy “feels” like a girl. He doesn’t belong in there.

DP, and whites didn’t feel safe from physical or sexual assault when sharing bathrooms with other races. They felt they didn’t belong their either.

You are demeaning the Civil Rights movement if you think that people being judged by the color of their skin is the same as having biological boys in the girls' bathroom..

Please find an example in the Civil Rights movement where white women said they were afraid of being assaulted in the bathroom by Black women.

What is bigger umbrella for skirt wearing people?
Trans?
Gender non-conform?
Gay?
Confusion?
Women?

Who cares at this point. If you have a penis you don’t belong in the girls locker room period.

There is a poster on the other thread whose DD would prefer to have a trans girl in the locker room with her than a trans boy. Because to her, a trans boy is a boy and a trans girl is a girl, even without clothes on. And probably even if they win/come in first place.

Who can make her pregnant? A Trans boy or a trans girl?

Possibly neither. All three could be intersex.

And the odds of that happening are close to zero.

At some point we need to return to science, basic biology and facts.

What a joke this school system is now. And I say that as someone who was lucky enough to attend FCPS during the 80s.
