I never thought about it this way.
Sophie seems to be doing ok too now after a rough start.
Sophie has a much lower profile. She and Edward don't get anything close to the scrutiny that Diana, Kate, and Meghan have received. Sarah Ferguson also got a lot more leeway from the press back in the day, but she was such an over-the-top personality (and a HUGE partier back then) that she still became tabloid fodder. You can't go on vacation with your side piece and show off about it the way she did, especially not when married to the queen's favorite son. But she still didn't get as much negative press as Diana or either of her son's wives, all of whom were hounded by the press as soon as it was known they were dating a prince.
I do think Kate handles it all exceptionally well, but I also think a primary difference between her and Diana/Meghan is that she really wants the public side of the job. She really seems to care about putting on a show a a "royal" for people and being a figurehead who represents something meaningful to people simply for existing. Diana did care about using her fame to help others, but didn't like being a symbol or figurehead. And Meghan I think expected being royal to be like a slightly more formal version of being a celebrity, and didn't understand the degree to which people would impose these very high and specific expectations on her. But Kate not only gets that, I think she likes it. I think being married to and then mother to the future kinds of England is basically her calling, which is sort of wild.
