There are no day flights to Europe other than to London. |
| No, we do business, but we are big miles/points flyers. |
You clearly don’t fly very much. Most airlines have eliminated first on international flights and gone with lie flat business class. |
Please splurge on yourself one day. Just so you know what the difference feels like. |
We had never flown business until 2021, when I had to go to India after my dad passed away. Although we could afford it, it had always felt so wasteful to spend 3x, for the same trip. We just got back from Europe, and traveled business. We're going back to India over the summer, and will fly business again. For domestic flights, we don't bother, but for international ones, absolutely. Getting to the destination without being an absolute wreck, is worth it at our age. |
DP. I've done both because I used to get 1st/business for work. I don't get it. The plane arrives the exact same time. I can buy all the food and booze I would for 1/1000 of the cost difference. The seats are more comfortable, but it's not that big of a difference for me that I am willing to shell out so much for it. |
We just flat out can't afford it. |
LOL I say don't ever do it so you don't know what you're missing! That is my strategy. |
| We do business. DH is 6’4” plus we frequently go for only 3-4 days so it minimizes the second day drag. |
Wow, I used to fly to Geneva for work and it was never less than $7000. |
I think it's only worth it if you can lie flat to get some sleep. Even then we probably can't afford it unless we get a free upgrade. |
| Please know that as a 44 year old woman who has never been able to afford business or first class, i will give a hard side eye to your CHILD in first class. |
That's half the reason to do it! |
Why? As long as the child isn’t disruptive, it doesn’t matter. I fly business on occasion for work but never for vacation. A kid wouldn’t bother me. |
The lie flat makes a HUGE difference on the overnight flight, especially if you are the type who has trouble falling/staying asleep in economy (which I absolutely do). If you can get a flight which leaves late at night, you can eat dinner in the lounge, then put the seat down right after takeoff and get 5-6 hours of sleep. Makes a very big difference in being able to function the first day, adjust sleep schedules, etc. On the daytime flight back, significantly less difference. Although it's nice to take a 30 minute cat nap in the middle of the flight, makes it so you aren't totally dragging once you get home and have to throw together some food before you collapse into bed, etc. And it's pretty much impossible to get free upgrades (or even upgrades with miles) into international business class unless you are a very high level elite on the airline.
