Nope. Our HHI is $650K and we always fly economy. First/business is a colossal waste of money.

For you. A waste of money for you.

NP here. And for me (also HHI >500k)

We take this trip about every other year. Our vacation days are more scarce than flight budget dollars so it’s worth it to make the trip overall more pleasant. For us.

I'm in my late 40's and have never flown anything but economy in my whole life.

Just don’t do what the rude parents on our flight today did - book themselves in business and their kids in coach and then have their kids coming up to them throughout the flight. We were in the first row of premium economy and they were constantly passing.

How is it rude to… walk past people?

I suspect it only annoyed you because you’re a nosy Nellie and couldn’t help taking note of the situation, what it was the kids wanted, etc.

They kept walking basically on top of us - I didn’t pay attention to what they were doing but they were young - maybe 5 and 7 and 6 and 8 - and kept climbing across us (front row center seats) because their parents were on the other side of the plane as well as way in front of them. Then at some point I went to the bathroom and encountered one of them upset by the toilet flush so I helped him.
And yes, people walking constantly past you even normally just walking the aisles is somewhat annoying but this was way more than that.

When we fly to Asia, we do pay for Economy plus, which is the equivalent of what business class was when I was little on the same route. It's slightly more comfy than economy but not horribly more expensive.

Think you mean Premium Economy? It sounds similar, but that's the common marketing name of the international product that is similar to domestic first class. Economy Plus is the United term for their normal economy seats, spaced an extra 3 inches apart for.more legroom. But they are the same width and don't get different food, etc.

Perhaps, I never fly with airlines from the USA if I can at all help it. It's whatever it's called for ANA, which is usually what we use to fly to Japan.

Always economy with kids. I’ve even flown a budget airline with kids and it was fine!

We do business to Asia but not worth it for Europe IMHO

We are between 300-350 and I always do economy. I theoretically wish I could pay for a bed but I can’t justify it lol. I don’t really care that much. I’m still happy to travel.

Yes. While we have a decently high HHI, we prioritize private school, which leaves us with a smaller vacation budget. Business class tickets x 4 are not in the cards right now.

It’s like 7 hours - it’s not worth the fee difference

I agree, though we usually do premium economy because dh is very tall and hates regular economy. HHI is over $1M but we never fly business with our kids. For work or long-haul solo/couple trips maybe but not with the kids.

If you can only afford economy, I personally feel you are better off just doing Epcot- that is close enough to Europe and in some ways is better

We just flew to Europe in BASIC economy. So, yes. We were fine.

+1. Husband's family is in Germany, so we fly every year, economy plus on Lufthansa. I think the difference between economy/economy plus there is actually bigger than economy plus/business, and the upgrade is totally worth it.
