Unless people get bit in face themselves, they consider vicious animals sweet pets. People who choose to have such pets are usually narcissists who want to impress and intimidate others. They lack common sense and empathy.

This mom was not very smart. She didn't know the dog and yet brought it into her home expecting a three year dog with possible trauma with her child. Even a lab might be problematic

A lab, a real one, would be highly unlikely to be problematic.

+1. It could happen, but it is FAR less likely. The pit nuts love to bring this up to muddy the waters, but the stats don't lie. My favorite is referencing the "Golden Retriever" that killed a kid like 15 years ago (only lethal incident in that timeframe ) and then looking at the pic of that dog. Like 75 percent pit for sure. But yeah, could be ANY dog!

Pitbulls are bred to be fighters. This is what makes them dangerous. It’s so sad.
Anonymous
They should be spayed and neutered out of existence. And owners whose pit bulls severely harm or kill should be locked in jail and left to rot. Or given the death penalty.
Anonymous
Won't be friends with or let my children visit anyone with a pit bull.

OP: I have two thoughts:

1) A 3 year old dog is not a puppy;

2) Kill all dogs who have 25% or more pit bull in them.

And, yes, I have adopted "pit mixes" and kept both until natural death 17 years later.

They are killers no matter how much love & affection is bestowed upon them.

You aren't in charge thank God. Btw, considering how many pits and mixes there are there could be much more attacks. Humans kill more pit/dogs than the other way around

This argument is so often used and completely ridiculous. Humans kill more tigers/alligators/sharks/pretty much every animal on the planet than the other way around. Should we all be allowed to keep pet crocodiles? Should we be allowed to walk tigers on the street? Should we allow our kids to snuggle with badgers? Other than microbes, there aren’t many animals that kill more people than vice versa.

Yes, it’s silly the way people act like any dog could go off. Technically, yeah, any dog can bite but 1) they generally don’t 2) they give the appropriate and escalating signs of warning, i.e., they don’t just go off and 3) a chihuahua’s bite isn’t going to be as damaging as the animal bred with wide jaws so they could breathe while remaining clamped down and with neck muscles meant to shake prey for maximum damage.

Pretending that pit bulls are just misunderstood creatures is both silly and dangerous.

People have done such a number on dog breeding that saying your have a “dog” tells you very little about the physical attributes of said dog. It could be a 2 lb toy or a 200lb mastiff. Would anyone want to be faced with a 75 lb angry chihuahua? No, because they would rip us to shreds and then pee on us when they were done. The physical characteristics of the dog is the biggest factor in how dangerous they are. Temperament second. With the exact same temperaments, a dog with strong jaws, neck muscles for shaking prey, increased pain tolerance, high ratio of muscle to body weight is more dangerous than a 30 lb beagle.

I don’t know if pit bull temperaments are so different from other dogs. But I do know that they are stronger per pound than most other dogs out there. I think that is the main reason why they are responsible for disproportionately many fatal attacks.

You don't know anything. You are wrong about your "facts"

I am confused as to why the mom is advising other parents to "not adopt dogs as you never know what could happen." I know lots of people with kids who have adopted dogs without a mauling occurring. Why can't people just admit the "you never know what could happen" only applies to pitbulls.

Please cite your facts. There are plenty of pit bulls that are adopted and nothing bad happens. But you don't hear about that because that doesn't sell. Think of all the planes that took off and landed safely. But that's boring so they report the crashes. Same with pit bulls. But, I wouldn't leave my 3 year old alone with any dog that I just picked up and adopted!

Because pit bull people have been brainwashed and don’t want to admit they’ve been suckered.

A pit bull bit someone in Newport News and might have been exposed to rabies. Because these dogs and their crusty owners are are such classy people. https://www.13newsnow.com/article/news/local/mycity/newport-news/newport-news-dog-bite-victim/291-c7629b80-b890-4b1f-a440-b2291740c13f
