Unless people get bit in face themselves, they consider vicious animals sweet pets. People who choose to have such pets are usually narcissists who want to impress and intimidate others. They lack common sense and empathy.

And no, your dog is not your baby’s “big sister” or “big brother”. That thinking is really stupid.

Not so simple. Dogs are clearly a part of the family and they can also be smarter than your two year old human so they actually do take on a protective and guiding role in small family members lives. Obviously nobody is saying that they are human but there are definitely many behavior based on family roles and relationships that warrant such a comparison.

A dog literally played with a toddler for several hours and then killed him in Maryland. Your dog is not part of the family. Your dog is an animal and a pet.

No, a pit bull literally played with a toddler for several hours and then killed him in Maryland. A pit bull is a dog, but it’s not a family dog. A pit bull was bred to attack - other dogs, cats, bulls and horses. They were bred to ignore pain, like a horse kicking it repeatedly, for example, and keep coming back. They were bred to jump up and latch onto the face and not let go. You can read what surgeons feel about whether or not pit bulls should be in family homes.

You're just making stuff up and have no idea what you are talking about!

What is he/she making up??!! It is truth. Pits were created to fight and kill.

I have not read the posts in this thread.

OP: I have two thoughts:

1) A 3 year old dog is not a puppy;

2) Kill all dogs who have 25% or more pit bull in them.

And, yes, I have adopted "pit mixes" and kept both until natural death 17 years later.

They are killers no matter how much love & affection is bestowed upon them.

When we adopted these babies as very young puppies, we were told that they were "lab mixes". I checked for webbed feet. I loved them with all of my heart, but...

I concur my first dog a husky was a brother to me and my brother. He was playful sometimes mean and very intelligent. He understood who mom my brother and who I was by name. He'd run off as huskies do and come back a few hours later.

This is such a weird thing to say. When humans kill other humans, we put them in jail, or in some states they themselves get killed. Yet you want unpredictable murder machines to roam freely and with no consequence.

It sounds like you’re going down the “there are no bad dogs, only bad owners” road. So where’s the pit bull owner-supported legislation calling for fines for pit bulls found wandering, or the seizure of the dog if it happens repeatedly? Where are your demands that pit bull owners whose dogs kill other animals face prison time? I’ve never once seen you guys demand a life sentence for one of your dogs killing a person. I don’t take you seriously because you’ve said nothing serious.

They should be held accountable but not treated any differently than any other homicide - how many people who kill other people end up with life sentences? Some, sure but most do not yet they are held accountable. The same should be true here but that has nothing to do with the breed, it should be for any dog owner.

So advocate for stronger sentences, for all breeds. Because the fact is that you do not advocate for responsible pit bull owners and appropriate consequences when they’re not. I’ve seen dozens of videos from dog parks where pit bulls start fights or flat out attack other dogs and the owners just walk away. No responsibility.

Thanks. I’m the PP who was “making stuff up.” Maybe they think I made up the story about how the pit bull killed that toddler in Frederick; I don’t think they read any of the links they’re provided, therefore, we made it all up.

Tell us how to do this. Even my lab mix ( and she was mostly lab) had 10 percent American pit bull terrier in her. Why does everyone blame the pit in them? My dog also had chow, rottweiler and german shepherd.

Most people don't have enough common sense to own a dog.

Four dogs of almost any big breed is a problem because they are a pack. This poor guy didn't know the dogs very well so I blame the owners for allowing him to pet-sit

Oh come on. That mom must have been an idiot if she believed that was a Lab. It looks just like a pit bull.

I swear in 50 years people aren't even going to recognize an actual Lab, they'll be completely overtaken by the "Lab Mix."

Think we’re already there - “preppy” people living in the “suburbs” with their “lab mixes” in their “colonial-style” houses filled with “traditional furniture”. So depressing.

You aren't in charge thank God. Btw, considering how many pits and mixes there are there could be much more attacks. Humans kill more pit/dogs than the other way around
